most bottle heaters these days are automatic and will shut off when they reach intended temperatures, so if you have one of those i doubt thats a result of an over heated bottle. it "sounds" like it could have been backfire (too much fuel) but im unsure..similar thing happened with my cousins mustang on a 75 wet shot. he had bigger fuel jet in there then he was supposed to , and he ran overly rich and back fired.

actually my relay messed up, so i just wired the heater to the on\off switch, so i controlled by turning it off and on and left it on a little too long. Yea its a sohc which is now turbod. when it detenated it blew my intake and vacum hoses off. My intake filter swelled twice its size.
