Ninjas: SOHC VTEC or non-VTEC tranny for boost?
Alright, here's my situation. I'm currently running the stock D16Y8 in my car with a greddy kit @ 8 psi. I have an ACT HDSS clutch kit installed, but my poor Y8 tranny is quickly headed south. At best, it needs a new throwout bearing, input shaft bearing and 2nd gear synchro. Who knows what else is wrong with it.
My dilemma is this: A buddy of mine called, and informed me that he has a 92-95 LX (non-VTEC) tranny with NO grinds and in perfect shape (vouched by my other friends) for $100. Most D16Y8 trannies I've seen for sale are around $200 at least.
I plan on upgrading my setup to an equal-length manifold and a T3/T04e off a SOHC DRAG kit. Will the longer gears of the non-VTEC tranny slow my setup down with the bigger turbo setup? And also, [B]is the difference in SOHC VTEC and non-VTEC trannies THAT much where a SOHC VTEC tranny is needed?
Post up if you're running a non-VTEC SOHC tranny with your turbo setup, and give your experiences with it.
Thanks!

yes the non vtec sohc trannies suck, I have seen y8 trannies go for as low as $150 and have bought them at this price, just look around. You dont want a non vtec sohc tranny, theyre way slower.

Re: (Bense)
<-- running a DX trans on 8psi....definitely slower acceleration than an EX I had before...only good thing is cruising at 75MPH @ 3K RPM
I've been wondering about this too, gonna have to replace my trans in the next 10K or so and Dseries trans are hard to find (non-grinding).
