Default Newb FMU question

please explain to me what all an FMU setup does such as having the vortech fmu, inlinefuel pump, and a missing link. On a sohc would this replace the stock greddy blue box? Does this need to be tuned? I'm just kinda confused. I am thinking about buying a greddy kit from a guy who sais he ditched the blue box and was running the vortech FMU so he is selling the FMU with the kit. He said i would need a missing link and an inline fuel pump for it to work. I'm just kinda confused on this.....Sorry for the stupid question. thanx

ok, well i don't know how to explain exactly how it works. But he's right. You would ditch the blue box in place of the fmu. You would get a 255lph intank pump, missing link, you would also need a afc because you'll probably steup up to bigger injectors. I ran on my sohc greddy turbo vortech 12:1 disk fmu, safc, missing link, 255lph intank, rc 440cc injectors.

the fmu depending on which disc you run (8:1,12:1) supplies 8lbs of fuel to every one pound of boost on the 8:1 and 12lbs fuel to every 1 pound of boost on the 12:1. the missing link is so your map sensor sees no boost so you dont throw a code. the inline fuel pump would supply enough fuel to meet the demands of the fmu. i have one if you need it. i would go with an intank though. you will run extremely high fuel pressure with an fmu and your injectors will be at the top duty cycle easily. its easier to ditch the blue box and go with hondata. if you cant afford it go with smc500 thats about to come out and dsm 450 injectors with a resistor pack or radio shack in line resistors. hope this clears it up fully for you

yea i'm thinking i may just hang on to the vortech unit or sell it if i got the kit. Then get the blue box for now until i decided to up the boost some. thanx for your responses guys.

the smart thing to do would be to get the hondata if you can afford it. The fmu tends to run extremely rich and it's just easier and you can make some really good power with the hondata. Don't take the blue box past 8psi.

yea i'm not really planning on taking the blue box past maybe 7psi. Then i will save up for a year or so and upgrade to hondata and get some other stuff so i can eventually upgrade the boost. I just don't have all the funds to upgrade my fuel systems to run higher boost right now.
