is a new Thermostat essential?

hello all...i am about to install the jackson boost upgrade kit and it came with a new thermostat....... and i was wondering if i actually have to install this or not... because the thermostat that is on my motor now only has 30k on it...........but i guess its a "high temp" thermostat but does that even matter????...
