Default New style GT35R turbo

Anyone seen the new style GT35R turbo? I just got mine straight from precision. it has several holes drilled in the compressor inlet which according to Precision made 30 extra whp compared to a regular GT35R turbo. i will try to get some pics of the turbo to post up. it looks sickkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!

are you just talking about the anti-surge/ported schroud housing? thats not a GT35R thing....its just a compressor housing thing. the last SC61 i used had that housing on it. my 35R just had the standard ported shcroud on it.

standard housing

ported schroud i had on mine. aparnetly i deleted the one you are talking about.

Yea, it is a gt35r with the anti-surge housing in this pic....it's kind of dwarfed by the Pt106

the first time i saw this was a couple years ago on the HKS T04Z, i think it is a much better way of going about the ported shroud

Is there really a difference? And how much extra are they charging for this option.

Also how much are the housings going for just for an upgrade.

Cause I might be picking up a GT35R, but it has the E housing. I want the S housing with the 2.5" outlet.

I don't think they make more HP tho. I was told the housing is to combat compressor surge, the way it does that is by creating turbulence in the inlet for the turbo. I'm not an expert but how does that make more HP?

They charged me about 50$ to add it to my 35R...I dont know when they started saying it makes more power...it actually takes away from the flow of the turbo very slightly by like 2 lbs per hour....it does make the turbo sound cool...

anti surge inlets are used with most big turbos..... compressor surge kills turbos so this extends the compressor surge line on the compressor map.... it is good for the turbos life

Usually the ported schroud housing sacrifices HP for saftey. You usually loose some HP when running a ported schroud, this new design is probably more efficient.

Just my guess...

Since were talking about the GT35r.

I have since sold my GT35e. E compressor housing, .63 turbine Precision 4 bolt housing.

I do not want to sacrifice any loss of spool time or power.

So if I go with the GT35R with S compressor housing and the .82 Precisions 4 bolt housing would I still make more power and better spool time than my GT35e? Is the GT35r really that much faster or better?

BTW I didn't sell the GT35e because I really wanted to, I just happen to run into a good deal for a GT35r for 800 bux, but ofcourse that deal fell through and I am now turboless.

Also is there really a huge difference going from a E compressor housing to the S housing with the 2.5" outlet?

As far as I know it won't make anymore power, and it doesn't straight up combat surge. However, it pushes back the point at which surge will occur. Higher in the powerband, thus the enigne is flowing more, and is less likely to surge.

Don't quote me

A Ported Shroud compressor is a feature that is incorporated into the compressor housing. It functions to move the surge line further to the left by allowing some airflow to exit the wheel through the port to keep surge from occurring. This provides additional useable range and allows a larger compressor to be used for higher flow requirements without risking running the compressor into a dangerous surge condition. The presence of the ported shroud usually has a minor negative impact on compressor efficiency.

There's a comparison P1 did between a .63 A/R SC61 and a .82 A/R GT35R. Not a perfect comparison as the SC61 uses the Stage V turbine wheel rather than the GT35 turbine, so I'm not sure how that effects lag. I personally would just stick with the .63 A/R GT35R setup, it's what I'm going to be running and a member on this board has gone 10 flats @ 140 MPH in a coupe on a .63 A/R GT35R, I think unless you're trying to max out the compressor wheel @ ~650 WHP then I'd stick to the .63 A/R
