Never broke in my rebuilt engine. Stock internals though, if it makes a difference.

Run SAE 30 wt oil for the first 500 miles of the engine. Change the oil and filter after the first 500 miles, then fill the engine with sythetic of your choice.

Upon start up of the engine, let the engine idle around 2-3K to seat the rings for approx 20-30 minutes. Drive the engine under no to semi load conditions for 50-100 miles. After 100 miles drive the car with full load/boost.

I use and recommend magnetic drain plugs for the oil pan, they catch a surprising amount of metallic flakes inside the engine for the first couple 1,000 miles after rebuilds.

If the clutch is a sprung disc, drive the clutch around town for 100-200 miles of stop and go driving. This heat treats the springs on the clutch disc.

For the first oil that you put into your car use SAE 30 weight non detergent oil. The local autozone carries Shell SAE 30 ND oil, which stands for non detergent. Its important that you break your engine in with ND oil for the first couple hundred miles so that the bearings surfaces have oil worked into the grain surface instead of detergents. The ND break in gives the bearings extented life.

After you go 500 miles change with full sythetic, I use Mobil 1 10w-30.
