need help with turbocharged prelude
My friend has a 5th gen prelude with a stg 2 RevHard kit. He's experiencing problems right now. His fastest ET time is 14.6. He has all the bolt ons and is running 9 psi of boost. His fuel pressure is at 50 psi and on WOT hits 60 psi. Ever since the vehicle has been turbo'd the CEL is always o
Problem#1:
He did a diagnostic test and the CPU analysis reads: "low response on primary and secondary o2 sensors". He swapped the o2 sensors with obd2 GSR's and the CEL is still reading the same problem.
Problem#2:
At WOT the car bogs twice at around 4-5k rpm on 3rd gear. What could cause this problem?
Problem#3:
Would 50 psi of fuel make the motor run rich? Could it be o2 sensors not mixing the air/fuel correctly?
Oh BTW, he's runnning a 3in exhaust with no catalytic. Could this be why the o2 sensors are diagnosed at reading "low response".
Pls help my buddy for he is lost in the woods!!

Re: need help with turbocharged prelude (avscrx)
thats not 60 psi of fuel on stock injectors is it? cause youll need a lot more than that on 9 psi on stock injectors. u need a o2 simulator for the secondary o2 if your not running a cat...

Re: need help with turbocharged prelude (Jockobo)
i'm still a newbie at this, so don't take my advice literally unless i have a few poeple backing me up...
i have the same set up although not that aggressive with boost...
first i would say, even with the fuel pressure, your friend won't have enough fuel for the extra air (boost). that is BAD becasue it's running lean which will lead to pre iginition
i would get 440cc injectors or even 550...i'm running 550 now
when you install the new injectors...you must get electronics to manage the bigger injectors. because the stock ECU won't know what to do with larger injectors and it'll just flood your engine. when you get fuel management with electronics, loose all the FMU and inline fuel pump (if you have one)...if you have a in tank fuel pump you can keep that
next get some iginition control....so all in all, get a hondata or some other stand alone to do all that.
don't go the cheap way and use as much stock parts as you can...it's not gonna work...if you want to keep the motor, get engine management...
i originally tried doing the stock way but you'll spend more money to fix the car so just be safe.

My friend has 550cc injectors but he doesnt want to put them on due to flooding of the fuel.
Any more help would be greatly appreciated!!

Is he running an FMU by any chance?
Tell him to stop running 9psi untuned unless he really wants to break his ringlands.

Well the eclipse i owned before my integra I took the cat off and the 02 before the cat started throwing a code. My check engine light was on and then it goes off. Come to find out my computer went into program mode which caused the computer to stop advancing or retarding my timing. It would spike 25 PSI on a little T-25 charger causing me to fuel cut or detonate. I would advise getting a Standalone and bigger injectors or getting a 02 Blocker or put a high flow cat on it. I recieved lots of problems taking my cat off so that might be the problem not totally sure just try what these guys have said and hopefully i might of helped you out to.

Re: need help with turbocharged prelude (BoostedTeg96)
i have a drag 3 kit on my 97' prelude without the cat and no engine lite, but does your friend have the missing link or check valves?
He needs some sort of ems or piggy back to control the fuel and some good dyno and tuning.
I'm having problems myself where my power dont peak due to lack of ems and tuning?

Re: need help with turbocharged prelude (safe driver)
bump. trap speed is 101 mph 14.7 1/4 mile and 98 mph 14.6 1/4 mile.
if I install the 550 cc injectors and a vafc do you think it will make a big difference.

Yea, it will make a huge difference. You will go from running a 14.5 to having a car that will not run at all.
There is no way you are going to get a 12:1 FMU and 550cc injectors to run with the AFC. The unit is incapable of pulling enough fuel. Having more mods on your motor means NOTHING unless you have it properly tuned.
Why don't you install the v-afc, ditch the FMU, run the hack (after you've searched on how to do it properly), have the car tuned, and then invest in some slicks? With those mods they should put you in the 13.8-14.2 range.

Re: need help with turbocharged prelude (PrecisionH23a)
What do you mean about "ditching the FMU?" doesnt the FMU control the fuel pressure. And the VAFC you can adjust the air to fuel.

Re: need help with turbocharged prelude (avscrx)
I ran Vafc, RC440's, and FMU didn't have a problem with it, it is what is known as the inline pro fuel setup, put the 550s in keep the FMU and trim it out with the Vafc it will be fine
BTW a car i work on some times has been running that same setup for over a year, but he has 550's in his car.

Yes it does. Run the afc-hack. It is much safer then running a shitty FMU.
Do a search, this has been covered plenty of times in the FI forum.
