Default Need help on turbo selection

Howdy guys, this is my first post becoz i just came across this forum recently. I am about to set turbo on my civic SI (B16a). I am now considering 2 choices of turbine AR which are .48 or .63. I already decided to go with SC-50.

My aim is to boost at 10-12 psi street use with stock bolck and head.

Any recommendation on this turbo ?

If i want to run with stock block and boost 10-12 psi what compression ratio should i use?

Thanks in advance for helping

Pete

Hey Pete, you seem like an honest Bloke, welcome to H-T. Just to let you know, it's best to look at the whp that you want to acheive, and not a particular boost pressure. Even stock compression with the right tools for tuning (I know you guys have Hondata, Power FC, and Motec available there) with larger injectors (don't use those stock ones) you'll be fine at the compression that you have. The SC-50 is a quick spooling little monster that does well with response and can deliver about 280whp on stock compression at a higher boost level. There are some alternatives that you might want to look into. Please PM me if you'd like, to learn more about them.

Take care, and again.. welcome.

Thanks man for replying.

I actually had my goal of 250 at wheel with stock block but am not entiely sure whether the stock compression ratio can handle this safely without any damage on the engine or I should run a bit less than stock cr . Another thing is about AR .48 or .63 which one you guys would recommend with respect to my goal of 250 at wheel and street use application?

Thanks

i would personally try to run a lower than stock compression ratio, although if you have a good tune with enough ignition timing taken out then you should be able to do 250 hp. i will recommend the .63 a/r turbine. it will most likely hit about 10 psi at roughly 5k rpms, but with the tight gearing of the transmission, there will be no lag when racing, yet when normal driving you wont be in boost all the time which will help your mpg and engine longevity

You could always use a thicker head gasket to lower your compression a bit..

also think about investing in pistons and rods.. then you could get a larger turbo and shoot for 400-425ish..
