Default Need help with quote i got for some head work.

So i picked up a 98 GSR head that has full Brian Crower valvetrain (dual springs, retainers, stainless valves). But i noticed that in the exhaust runners there was some oil coming out, and thought it was just valve stem seals. So i took it to a local very very reputable machine shop and he told me that the valve guides were wiped out and those definatly needed to be replaced. So he quoted me $250 for hot tank, resurface, valve guides, stem seals, and labor. Is that a good price? ive never had to deal with guides.

Sounds reasonable to me. Would that include a valve job after the new guides? Seems like it would be necessary.
btw...I paid 125 just for a plain valve job on a single slam.

That's a good deal $250 for new guides and valve job!!!! (why even ask the question) also one thing you said they would do im not sure about is the Hot tank cleaning. I have always been told that you should not hot tank a aluminum head though You should put it through a spray washer Using Aluma-Bright cleaner or Glass bead it on low pressure but don't quote me on it that is just how i learned it.

you do have to be careful which chemicals you put onto aluminum. Some chemicals are caustic and will eat the material if left in too long, but the machine shop should know that, if not I would look for another shop. Im sure they are using something safe unless they are complete ****tards.
