need help: ls vtec turbo
hey i needed some help about turbo and the motor being built..i went to go test drive a car today and wanted to purchase it..but something didn't feel right about it..the motor is fuilly built with je 9 to 1 compression and crower billet rods. and he was boosting 5lbs. the motor was a ls vtec turbo..and he was useing his STOCK LS ECU. so no vtec engagment.. but for some reason i didn't feel nothing at all it was like driving a normal car? and i was asking my friends and they said you should boost more casue it has such a low compression it dosn't respond that quickly? is that true? need some help!! thanks guys!

Wow,is your friend alittle slow..? Why would someone have a built lsvtec and turbo and have stock LS ecu..? So stupid..It's probably running so Lean..Im suprised it didn't blow up
And you're friends told you it should boost more because it has a lower compression? The turbo doesn't just say to itself " Okay, the motor has lower compression pistons so let me spin alittle more"..
Get some kind of fuel mangagement..If he's obd1 I suggest Uberdata chipped p28,Bigger fuel pump and bigger injectors,,And get it tuned ,,Then you'll feel some power..

Re: need help: ls vtec turbo
well my friend was running his aem ems system and was tunned...but after parting his car out he sold that and all he had left was the stock ecu..a bunch of my other friends told me it could be casue of the fuel management (he is not running one what so ever)..=/..the injectors are the blitz 720cc..i heard the turbo spool up real hard and the blow off valve go off..but it felt kinda i was driving a stock car...

That doesn't make sense.
Stock ECUs go apeshit when they see boost. Was there a CEL? If he's running 720cc injectors he's running pig rich because those are 3 times the size of the stock injectors.
Even if he's just running 5 pounds of boost you should still feel it. It won't be super-fast, but it should have some get up and go.
What year is this car and how much is the guy asking for it? If it's cheap it might not be a bad idea to get because you can fix all the little things that are wrong with it. If he wants a lot I'd pass it up and look for something with less problems.

It could be running so damn rich that it doesnt seem much faster at all

That's very true.
I don't know if I'd want a car that is setup like that. All of those problems should be fairly easy to fix, but you never know how much damage has already been done to the car. You figure he's running 720cc injectors with the stock duty cycle which is probably putting him below 9:1 afr in vac. I wouldn't be surprised if the oil was super-thin from having a lot of gas in it.

Its probably richer then 9:1 if he actually has 720's on the stock ecu

Re: need help: ls vtec turbo (B6tPoweredMx3)
For that kind of setup 3500 is cheap.
I would almost buy it for that price and then get a P75 chipped with uberdata to run it correctly. But at the same time I don't know if I would want to get the car with it being in it's current running state.

Re: need help: ls vtec turbo
yea..it is pretty cheap for that nice setup..but i'll have my mechanic check it out ..do the basic compression test and a leakdown test and we'll see what goes on from there..

solid plan. if it checks out, its worth it, thats a decent motor setup
