Default Need help ID'ing this TURBOCHARGER T3/???????

This might sound like a dumb question to you veterans, but I'm fairly new to the FI game, so bare with me. I need to identify this turbo: All I know is that it's a T3/something?? Labeled specs: A/R .60 (comp side), .48 (turbine side), 3" comp inlet, 2" comp outlet. Here are some pix. What is it?

TIA

**Edit** OK it;s a T3/T04B
but what wheel is this:

I took it apart today and slapped on the .63 A/R exhaust housing. Fits perfect! I also took some measurments of the blades:

Compressor blades: 5.4 cm (smaller diameter), 6.6 cm (larger outer diameter) I forgot which is inducer and exducer.

Exhaust blades: 4.7 cm, 5.6 cm

Can anybody tell me what stage this wheel is?

That's an interesting looking .48/.60... No holes for water cooling.

Does it have a T3 flange? If so, you have answered your own question.

The water jacket was optional. Some have them, some don't.

It looks like it has a large compressor wheel. Larger than my 60 trim .48/.60.

Hmmm....

What engine are you looking to put it on?

Yes it's a T3, I know... but what model T3... ie: T3/T04E, T3/T4, etc.

B18C1. Would it be a good candidate? I'm thinkin it should spool fairly quick due to the .48 turbine, but would it choke up too quick as well? My motor is stock if it helps.

My guess is it's a T3 Super 60 trim .48/.60.

Looks like a great turbo

It will spool quickly on a b-series engine. You might want to step up to the .63ar turbine if it chokes up top.

Cool beans bro

Even though your guess sounds great, I'd like to know facts. I know somebody out there knows what turbo this is. Can someone confirm that this is a Super 60?

its a t3-t04B turbo..

the its a B housing also.

looks to be MJMauto/turbocalculator turbo. i hate them with a passion cuz they cant rebuild a turbo or builid one for a damn. take a better pic of the turbine side and mate that up with the bMC downpipe you got. if its who i think rebuilt it. its not gonna fit. and the turbine housing bolt pattern is a lot bigger.

Not sure what your talkin about Phil, It fits perfect with the DP & mani.
But, if it's what you say it is, would the B housing be suitable for my motor?

hrmm well then maybe its not an MJM auto/ turbocalculators turbo cuz they use the turbine housing with mercades flange.

the B housing fill fit your motor i showed you the fitment of it on your manifold when ya came by. fits pretty good. itll spool quick .

Phil,
here are the pix for you. Fits perfect to me bro.

Will anybody else confirm this turbo is a t3/t04B?

Looks to be around a B housing, however I'm not sure why the comp wheel has 8 blades... T04B wheels are supposed to be 7-bladed....

Definitely a stage I (or -72) exhaust wheel.

That's what I knowticed too, after doing some archive digging. Will the 8th blade actually be more efficient or vise verse?

the old t04b's used an 8-bladed wheel. the compressor housing is indicative of its age. as garrett hasnt used the big letters in years

.60 a/r on the compressor mean's its an E housing
looks like you have a t3/to4e with a .48 turbine housing
you can find the trim by measuring the inducer and exducer on the compresor
then "cross referencing" with the spec's on garrets website...
good luck

nope, t3s, to4bs and to4es among others come in that A/R.

The compressor is probably fine for your B series. I just woulden't want that tiny turbine wheel if i were you, unless its a stg 2 then it might be cool for a punchy auto-x type of thing.

It looks almost exactly like mine guys.

Mine is a S-trim t3/t04B, old AiResearch .60 compressor, 8-blade wheel (50mm inducer/70mm exducer), stage-1 exhaust with .60 non-ford exhaust (bolts perfectly to a volvo .48 ar ford-flanged housing). You'll have to measure the compressor wheel, if its bigger then 50mm small/70mm big ends, its the next trim size up.

My guess is that since the extra blade on B's are supposed to spool a tad faster and restrict airflow on top vs t04E's, that an 8-blade would be more pronounced. I'm hoping to use my S-trim on my D16 since a t04E is probably a bit big and a t3 60-trim flows a bit less than this one. Plus I got a good deal on it

I dig the downpipe. That must have been a lot of bandsaw work!

Would a .63 a/r exhaust housing off of a ford thunderbird t3 be good for this swap? My bro has one laying around, that's the reason for asking.

And when I do swap housings, I leave the blade alone, correct?

get the 63 housing on there. however it cant have crazy gappage. make sure it has the same clearance as the old turbine housing. it can be a stage 1 or stage 2 turbine wheel. if it doesnt fit in with ease then dont bother.

Aight, take off exhaust housing, dont touch the wheel, see if .63 housing fits (what do you mean by "gappage"... my teeth are cool ), and bolt it back together. Got it.
