Need Help with bearing clearences
Hey guys Im going to try to explain this the best I can...I have built 3 motors before this and they all ran great so I kinda have some time in you can say...
Motor b18a1 ls crank with gsr mains...Was line bored balanced together
I had this motor running and detnated a piston. ..got new bearings/pistons/rings...I started my rebuild with my motor..I had the crank balanced and polished and block honed...When I started put it together with the std acl race bearings after checking clearences they came up loose...around .004...So I did some math and ordered the .025 oversized acl's..after checking my clearences they came up great at .015 (factory specs .009-.019) so I thought golden...After oiling and puting it back and tq the crank would not spin....Now the crank does spin fine with the stds but will not with the oversized even though its in spec..I check both clearences 2 times each and both the same...I even tried to mix bottom mains std and tops oversized and clearences were to tight...
My question is my friend told me to run some thicker oil and those clearences should be fine....I just want some input what to do? Or am I missing somthing? I tried to explain this the best I could and im sure my grammer sucks some where...Thanks HT...JJ

Hi JJ.. you shouldnt have gotten crank polished. your just taking metal away. you prolly woulda been fine with using std bearings if you didnt have the crank polished at the shop. not really sure of your problem with it not spinning freely tho. GL. Txt me sometime.

So your crank will NOT spin with the new bearings? Double and triple check you got the right bearings from them. Compare them with the bearings that spin as well

Re: Need Help with bearing clearences
It will not spin with the over sized .025 bearings..but it will spin with the new std bearings...but the the std clearences are loose for my likeing...I ordered 2 sets both new..You can hardly tell the difference and they are stamped right on the back of the bearings std/ or .25..

Did you have the machine shop double check the crank was 100% straight?
0.0015" should spin just fine, unless the crankshaft is bent.

No I did not..I didnt think I would need to lol...I just called the machine shop im going to run it down next week on my day off from school...He said he will check the crank and check the clearences...He said sounds like the plastiguage maybe giving a bad reading due to cold weather

Re: Need Help with bearing clearences
ya i would have them get the measurents anyways, that way you can order honda bearings and get it exactly how you want it, no sense in cheaping out with a built block

Re: Need Help with bearing clearences
Went to machine shop and had clearences checked with micrometer(not sure if thats how you spell it) turns out either my plastigauge was old or it was to cold and not giving me proper readings...The std bearings cam up right in spec..I believed those were what I needed but just got confused with false readings...
Thanks for all the help guys..Please close thread
