need advice on a stripped head stud!!
I was finishing putting my built motor together last weekend and was installing the intake manifold. I got down to the last nut to torque and realized the hole in the head is stripped and stud just keeps on turning. The torque on those is only 16 ft/lbs, do you all think I could get away with putting something on the threads (like maybe jb weld) and screwing the stud in, or do I need to remake some threads?
All input would be greatly appreciated!

Drill it out and put in a thread insert from a local hardware store. It should take about 10 mins, but be careful. Once you replace the threads it will be stronger than ever before.

Re: (DaX)
Both are excellent suggestions. I heard that the helicoil is really easy to do. So you guys thinks some kind of thread adheasive would be a bad idea? I am not crazy about drilling out threads in aluminum, but you have to do what you have to do.

eh, i prefer recoil over helicoil or timeserts. I sell them all and I have seen in high load bearing apps. the timeserts fail. I don't like helicoil because the sales rep was an *** to me .

But this isn't a high load/stress place...just holding the intake manifold on the head. And there are people on here using Timeserts for stripped head studs I do believe.

Re: (DaX)
Drill it, and helicoil it. I know drilling isn't an exciting idea, but it will make the best repair you can. Unless you want to tap the newly drilled hole and switch to a different bolt.

Timesert on the left, helicoil on the right:

I would just drill it out and then tap it with a thread in a bigger diameter. You'll just need to get another stud then though. It's just another option.

timesert is the only way to go..............they are used commonly on mercedes with the inline 6........Dr. Sizzlechest over heats his car and 2-6 of the head bolts pull right out, it is a simple fix timesert and collect the payment
