my precision turbo
I was driving to the shop to get a my car painted when I decided to pass a car at 240kph I was on low boost of 11 psi, but after I pass the car my car started smoking so I thought I fucked my car so I slow down, check the oil level it was good, so I continue, then it started smoking more and not boosting anymore the oil in my charge pipe cause the coupler to slip off so I thought it was the problem for no boost. so I called precision to find out the price of a rebuilt kit found out the turbo was still under warranty, so I pulled it this morning and found this:
wheel was in the downpipe
wheel was in the downpipe

Damn man, only time I have ever seen one go that bad was a Hahn super16g on a DSM I had and the oil line clogged and destroyed the thing.
Glad to hear it's under warranty.

Re: (Jay_Sensing)
You are lucky that thing is still under warranty. That turbo is trashed.
I wonder what would cause the shaft to snap like that? Coked up bearings?

Re: (ironcheftony)
my precision sc 61 did the exakt same thing on an engine dyno. The previus pull before it broke showed 525hp @ about 27 psi. I talked to brian at precision turbo and he tock care of me.. I uppgraded to a gt 35r after that though.

no matter what happen I still love precision turbos. I hope things work out. I am still trying to figure out why it broke though, I cant find a reason, the shaft and compressor wheels still spins freely without shaft play.
the turbo have one year warranty, mine is good until december.

I have seen that same problem happen on a Talon locally !!! IT was a PTE turbo as well.
PTE turbos have a 12 month 12k mile warranty. They have great customer service, pretty good product, but i just dont trust the reliablility of their turbos anymore. Sure they will fix it under warranty but how many times do I have to send it back-- I sold mine and switched to a real garrett

Re: my precision turbo (rudebwoy)
I have had numerous Precision/Garrett turbochargers and never had this happen. Actually. I almost had it happen with a GT3767S that was Xsi-T's. Sold it to mrbsponge. He sent it to Precision. Xsi-T paid to have it repaired. I guess mrbsponge didnt push enough This was due to oil starvation though. Oil pump gear shattered

nothing seized, everything still spins freely. the color on the housing is just poor pic quality, it was taken at night with a flash, and came out like, the housing is black with exhaust and oil.

On the autobahn? California needs more autobahn from my house to my work! Make that 30mile commute in 12 miles at 150mph!

That SC61 is a real garrett. The differences are the housings and i *think* they have different bearings in all of the CHRAs. Race bearings instead of Thrust.

Re: (Riake)
YOu dont understand. Something in their manufacturing process is fubar, in my opinion. I will take a garrett over their modified garrett any day of the week. And thats what I did.
My turbo had 400 miles on it. it was so bad they had to replace the WHOLE thing. I sold it the day I got it in the mail and ordered a T67. Its just too expensive to take another risk and threads such as this back me up. This is not the first time I have seen the exhaust wheel in the down pipe and guaranteed they are going to argue with you saying you didnt do this right you didnt do that right
Joe tried to tell me that my golden eagle sandwhich adapter was feeding unfiltered oil
They distance themselves away from the failure with their parts and make you feel like they are doing YOU a favor by them standing by their warranty. Joe told me "This is 400$+ in damage, bla bla bla" - How about the fact that a 2 week old 900$ turbo **** the bed? Hmmm I should be the one bitching not him.
Precision's 1 year warranty
Precisions reliablility
You will need to utilize that warranty

Re: (B18 CYA)
on the autobahn, the average speeds are 200kph. I usually cruise at about 180kph to 200kph when I pass I do it quick, because as soon as you pull out in that passing lane with no cars behind you, you will be surprised by a ferrari, porche, or a mecedese with high beams flashing you, it very crazy if you drive like an American, so therefore I drive like a German.
