My little Del Sol B16A3 build...a few pics for your enjoyment!
Alright guys I just thought I would post up some pics of my recently built/running/and street tuned motor (Currently has 630 miles on it). I used to be a strong believer in the all might D series motor on boost but when I got such a good deal on a del sol Vtec with a b16a3 motor in it with 94,000 original miles I just couldn't pass it up. I recovered this motor out an extremely neglected del sol (the black sol pictured below) and I tore it apart and rebuilt with new stuff after selling my old built d16z6. I ended up parting out the del sol that I bought and ended up making more money back on the car and still kept the motor, tranny, gauge cluster, and strut bars to be installed into my S model del sol. Below is the run down on the motor build. All work was done by close friends and I. I plan on upping the boost shortly (after purchasing a bigger IC and EBC) and dynoing it to hopefully reach my goal of 400whp on pump gas. Hopefully shortly I will have dyno numbers and vids.
Setup is:
Block:
81.5mm B16A3 (stock sleeves)
Micropolished crank
ACL rod/main bearings and thrust washers
Eagle Rods with ARP rod bolts
Wiseco 9:1 pistons
OEM headgasket
Head:
Stock ports
KMS dual valvesprings/titanium retainers
GSR cams
Peak Performance Cam Gears
Stock valves (revving to 8700rpm as of now)
Blox intake manifold
OEM B16 TB
Turbo Setup:
Precision SC44 (60 trim)
Peakboost EL manifold
Tial 38mm wastegate
custom 3" dp and 3" kteller exhaust
custom dumptube
custom 2.5" IC piping
Johnnyrace car FMIC (soon to be changed out)
TurboXS RLF bov
Precision 880cc injectors
GM 3 bar map sensor
Walboro 255 fuel pump
DSM resistor box
Other Things:
Clutch Specialties unsprung 6 puck clutch (400 ft./lb. pressure plate)
Stock resurfaced flywheel
B16 tranny with all new syncros (No LSD though yet )
Brand new seals and gaskets (built by John Kerr and I)
Running 10psi on a street tune right now from good friend and tuner John Kerr aka J-K-Tuning.com on Crome but will dyno it shortly on pump gas to reach my goal of 400whp.
On with the pics!!
Motor was saved from this car
Out with the old built single slammer
The block freshly bored
Crank freshly polished and ready to go
Eagle's and Wiseco's
ACL bearings and new ITR oil pump
Starting the bottom end assembly (you can never have enough lube)
John Kerr (J-K-Tuning.com) in the flesh and blood checking the bearing clearances before final assembly.
Bottom end almost completed...yummm
Titanium retainers and dual valvesprings installed along with new valve seals
Freshly painted head ready to be filled with the GSR cams
The tranny needed new syncros since it wouldn't shift into 2nd before it came out of the other car.
Tranny back together and painted...looking so fresh
Too cheap for solid mounts I filled my stockers with 3M's window weld polyurethane
Head installed with new ARP's and OEM headgasket
The backend view with the Blox IM
Wiring harness, fuel rail, 880's installed
Timing belt along with timing cover...ready for flywheel and clutch install
Motor in its new home!
All hooked up and ready to go...
So we started the car up and it wouldn't stay in neutral due to a messed up 2nd gear syncro (was binded up) so out came the tranny to get fixed again
We fixed the tranny and got it back in and has been running flawlessly for a little over 600 miles now.
Now a pic of the car this motor resides in...
Like I said earlier dyno time will be coming shortly after a bigger IC is installed and an electronic boost controller is purchased. Wish me luck on my goal of 400whp on pump.
Special thanks to John Kerr (93turbo16), Shaun Quickel (Honda Bull), D Rob (D-Rob), and Chad Sheriff (redVtec21) for all their help in this build.
