Default My day at the dyno.

The turbo gods are pissed off at me or something...My day started like normal..I woke up at 7 am got out of bed, showered, got dressed, and skipped breakfast to work on my car...My appt was for 10 am at Jotech, and of course i was late..It was about 9:30 am, i tried to start the car, and no luck. Thre plugs were fouled out. So i sent Tricia to VSV to get me some new ones...Then she noticed the number 1 injector was pissing 93 octane all over the place...So i replaced the little o-ring..By this time i was about to cry...We finally get the car to start and head out to Garland...My car is smoking all crazy by this time, i'm throwing a map code, and the car reeks of gas. That's the last time i try and drive a car with 440's and a stock gsr ecu...It sucked..My car almost died while we were sitting at a stoplight..I had to keep the revs over 3 grand just to make it to Jotech...So, we finally show up there and DIREP pulls up(you like my movie star name dropping)...Anyways, they get my car on the dyno and start setting up the EMS...It turns out my version is super ancient so they have to upgrade it..I think this was a set up so Tony could talk me into buying bigger injectors..lol..j/k tony! So i bought some GReddy 720's.(i'm glad i did) My first run was on 10-11 psi and it put down like 190 someting..I wasn't to woried, because Kenny started from scratch and i knew my car would make good power...Kenny got it tuned right on the money and turn the boost up to 15 psi..The numbers were ok, but something was wrong...It turned out the piece of crap exhaust i was running, that came with the car, sucks...Tony and Kenny disconnected it and i was instantly in the 300 hp club... ...So Tony says lets turn up the boost some more...I was totally down..Crank it up...We turned it to 18 psi and boom...White smoke...The head gasket blew...lol..I was sad at first, but i know it will be ok....It will be fixed tomorrow, and i'll get to run hard...(Thanks to Tony and Kenny for hooking me up and taking care of me)...So in the end I called Jon's Towing and towed my car back to VSV...I started the day with my car running like crap toend up having to get a ride from the Honda Bus at the end of the evening.. Good thing i had enough money for the transfer...

Cliffnotes:I finally hit 300 hp..I have a blown headgasket..AEM EMS rocks...The guys at Jotech are cool..I still smell like gas ..but for now i'm going to go eat dinner with my girlfriend ....Peace..Thanks to all my friends..and to the turbo gods, i will defeat you!!

so what ur saying is that ur teg was not running right in the first place before u went to dyno, then they suggest u get bigger injectors without fixing ur fuel issue.
u get bigger injectors then turn up the boost then BAM!!! blown head gasket.
hhhhmmmmmmmmmm.........note to self: never take my GSR there for tuning.

am i out of line here or is there more to the story??

Yeah..ur out of line...cuz i drove the car their with a new set up planning on putting in the EMS when i got there..Have you ever tried to drive a car with 440's and a stock ecu..it was flooding the **** out of the car..It took us 20 minutes to get ther and i put new plugs in when i left and they were foul when i got there.... I wouldn't take my car anywhere else to tune.

Okay, the plan was to make 350 or so and he had 440 injectors.....to small to safely make that power. Ok, install 720cc and be done with that, won't need to upgrade for a long time. I'm a big fan of large injectors and smaller duty cycles. Anyways, the reason it was messed up before we started is because there wasn't a map in the ems and he drove to the shop on a stock ecu and 440's. Ok, we gained 35whp by dropping the exhaust, that was a major restriction. Come to find out, the car had a stock headgasket (the best one to go with), but stock headbolts and no copper spray. It will be reasssembled right, and make good power for pump gas. It's not like we just turned it up with no tune in it....

Well, I'll leave it to radio shack tony1 to defend himself, but I know for sure by just reading the internet posts and by reading Jotechs 1/4 times that they know their ****. I doubt they told him to just get bigger injectors to cure any kind of problem his car was having, unless of course, it was lean condition.

Starting to get some good numbers before the headgasket blew. Good luck and boost that ***** hard after you get it running again.

well ****, I guess they beat me to it..

Nice torque numbers Felix. Sucks about the head gasket. Good luck with it. I should be getting my AEM EMS in the next month or so.

Jotech can handle tuning that car, your car, and a lot more. They've earned my respect, you should give it where it's due. Things happen, sometimes unexpectedly and beyond any tuner's control. Fact "no good dyno tuner can say they haven't had a motor pop on them" (and if you can well screw you then )

Thank you John. Some people are real quick to point the finger...

Stan, yes, that was your POS exhaust! When we took it off and looked at the resonator, the inner diameter was no more than 1.75"!! Talk about a bottleneck! The chambered 5 zigen muffler didn't help matters!

felix those Torque #'s are friggen bad ***. 245 tq @ 15psi. that is right on par for a 330-350whp turbo gsr. i dont know why ur torque curve is falling off, most gsr turbo's maintain torque alot higher in the rpm's then urs did on the dyno today. ive been doing some thinken about it. if u want to hear any of my ideas ask me and i will tell u about it when we take the honda bus to school tomorow. but for now, just have a good nights sleep and wake up tomorow and rip that head off, change the gasket and put in those arp studs. its not the turbo gods that are madd at u, its the allmotor gods that are pissed u went turbo cause u still got that all motor JG head on their.

Yeah right. Tony doesn't know how to work on a Honda. He supposedly built a turbo GS-R that made 283 whp @ 0.5 bar.

I can see a Stock gsr with stock compression make that much power...but seriously that exhaust was weak...It sounds better just open downpipe... ...
