MSD Removal I Got Q's???
Well I got this car. Its a 1994 Civic Hatch with a fully built D16z6. Its a F/I setup.. --Fully forged bottem end-Sleeved-JG Camshaft-Springs Retainers-JG PnP Head-STR Drag I/M-T3/T4 .60/.63 57 trim-3" DP etc..
-72lb injectors-SX fuel pump-SX FPR
-NOS Wet Nitrous system currently at a 70 shot
-Haltech Managment-MSD 6al ignition box-Blaster SS coil
The car made 418/317 at 22 psi w/ 70 shot.
Sooo my question is I read horror stories about MSD systems on this site and the car actually breaks up a little but upwards of 7400 rpms. Now i dont know if it is the tune or the MSD system but I was wonderin if I pulled the MSD out can the OEM ignition handle the power.. I would love to eliminate any extra or unneeded parts in my car that may just be screwing with it.. So for you expierenced H-T members I could really use some opinions on this subject...

Usually people say that the 6AL system is trash. I've never had a single problem with my Digital 6+ system. Try either a better system or a different manufacturer if it comes down to that. But in the mean time try this:
1.) Pull the distributor cap off and look at the contacts on the inside. If they look like the picture below then replace the cap and that will help if not fix the problem. Notice the grossness on the metal contacts? That's something you don't want.
2.) Pull the spark plugs and make sure they are the right ones. You could try some proven NGK BKR7E plugs if you have some no name crappy ones in there.
3.) While you have the spark plugs out, check the gap. If the gap is like .035+ then you are likely just blowing out the spark. When that happens you will have the exact problem you have described. Gap them down to like ~.026-.028 and give that a try.
4.) As much as people bitch and moan about MSD's on here take it as a grain of salt. Typically they buy the cheap version and then wonder why it isn't working great. MSD's do work.

In that case I apologize. How much power do you have right now? You might not need 8 heat range plugs.

i have a 6al and have seen several others run them with no problems. just keep in mind if you dd this car that ss blaster is usually good for about a year. also msd has a great tech line if your having problems you should call em. i can say that msd makes hella spark compared to oem. you can hook the 6al to the oem coil and get way better sparkalso.

3rd year on my blaster SS coil, daily driven, 380+ WHP.
And I think 6th year on the SS coil on my other car, JRSC D16Y8 @ 9 psi.
The SS coils generally are pretty good IMO, but I heard otherwise and NOT to touch any digital stuff from MSD (Digital-6, DIS2/DIS-4, Digital-7, etc).

Same here, ~3years and 40,000 miles varying between 375-430whp on the Blaster SS. Well the entire MSD setup for that matter (Digital 6, Blasters, Cap, Wires).

my cap looks like the one pictured. also looks like i should replace the rotor as well cause its showing a little wear also.
does anyone know the part number from MSD for the cap and rotor? (LS B18B engine)
all i could find were VTEC parts.
and for the plugs. I used the BRK7E's on my previous turbo gsr. For the heat range 8, what is the number? BRK8E's ??? anyone have a NGK part number?
thanks - i searched and cant seem to find the correct ones.

Yea, your cap is definitely causing part if not all of the issue if it looks like my old one that I pictured. I'll feel like a different car with that replaced
Good luck.
1.) 94-01 Integra LS MSD Cap - Black: 8292, Red: 82921, Extreme Cap: 82922

2.) The NGK plugs do not come in BKR8E. The equivilent to the BKR8E's is:
Series 8's - NGK R5671A-8, Stock# 4554
Series 9's - NGK R5671A-9, Stock# 5238
