Default motors free revs to the rev limiter.....throttle is closed?

so me and a buddy from here went to the track today.........IT WAS ALL BAD!

he posted 10.90@141 on radials

i couldnt get much into 2nd gear due to a bad synchro so i decided to spray it in 3rd and 4th

well i blew a charge pipe off, FPR hose off, and MAP line off, thought i may have heard a tiny backfire

well we changed MAPS

and now the var will free rev to the limiter (hondata) or tilli engage the 2 step

havent looked to see if it is a bent T/B plate, it doesnt surge just revs like hell to the limiter, and THA THROTTLE IS CLOSED.....WTF

anyone know

we are gonna look at it tomorrow, just wanted to see if anyone had this happen before

sounds like the throttle plate is bent like you said...unless its just stuck, but you would know that cause the pedel would stay on the floor.

keep us updated

Maybe you blew the plug out of the drivers side of the plenum? I want to make a 'danger to manifold' joke but it jsut woulden't be funny

How about ruptured the large vacuum line for the brake booster?

Hope it's just some bolt on stuff and nothing else.

wait wait wait... I didnt hear you say anything about the backfire earlier... What is your timing like??? When did the charge pipe blow off???

Im beginning to think Nitrous backfire... Which bent the TB butterfly...

That would also explain the vaccum lines popping off everywhere, and IC pipes blowing off...

(The sudden pressure increase caused by the nitrous explosion within the intake manifold would cause a LOT of pressure in the charge piping, and vaccum system, which would pop lines off and blow off IC pipes...)

Im not willing to bet bent TB butterfly now that you mention the backfire

Damn, I really feel smart now... I love when theres a problem I actually know about and have had experiences with....

Good luck with'er man... keep me posted....

How would it pressurize the charge piping if the throttle plate was closed? And if the turo wasnt spinning very fast, it would be nearly impossible to pressurize the charge pipe.

this was on a pass, it did pressurize the chArge pipe............to 18psi, where i have my boost controller set at. then in 3rd gear it popped off, i know the sound real well so i let off, then it was idleing like ****......because the PFR hose and MAP hose were off, so i just coasted.

we arent talking about blowing the pipe off in the pits working on the car, were talking about on the track.

the reason it didnt free rev at the end of the track is i think i ruined the MAP sensor on that pass becuse i had to replace it with jasons, and thats the only way it would even start

why would it go to 18psi where your boost controller is set at, your boost controlelr isnt going to regulate anything on a nitrous backfire. It would only bend the throttle plate if you had let off the gas when it backfired.

What map sensor were you running?

my nitrous is activated at full throttle which is how i was.......you know, i was making a pass at full throttle so i was currently boosted at 18psi plus spraying a 20 shot.........understand.?......i heard the pipe come off cause i makes a weird *** sound so i let off, then it kinda rumbled, im taking it because there was no MAP hooked up or FPR hooked up. im not sure if i heard a back fire cause it was real sputtery due to the MAP being un hooked.

all i know is if you crank up the car, it will rev like mad man all the way to the limiter, but if i keep my clutch in i can engage the 2 step at a desired rpm, if you try to push the throttle YOU HAVE NO CONTROL, of the reving, this is causing me to believe, that my plate is bent or something, cause a manifold gasket (mine is the hondata one) would cause a surging not an outta control revving.

and there is no more vacuum sources that could be open.

i am currently at my house and the car is not here so i havent looked yet

if the throttle was wide open when it backfired, it shouldnt bend the throttle plate.

someone had to say it... "OWNED !!"

Wow.. 1ST time i've seen that happen b4.. a guy i knew had his nitrous pressurize his IM and we all heard a LOUD *** boom right after he started his car up in a parking lot.. It was loud as hell and also killed his car.. upon inspection, it also blew off his Air intake at the TB, but didn't do anything to his TB plate cuz the car started right up after a few minutes of trying to figure out what happened..

nah, im pretty sure my problem is the fact that.

"my charge pipe blew off while i had the gas pushed all the way, while of course the nitrous was on. i doubt i lifted my foot as soon as the pipe came off. thus kept spraying. then when i did let off i tried to gas it again. them otor thinking it was still presurized from boost and a little nitrous probably backfired"

funny thing is.........car still runs

HUH????

oh yeah, btw, I love being right :D

And Blake, nitrous backfires happen during closed throttle, due to puddling in the manifold... Not at WOT

Are they real RADIALS or are they a DOT bias ply like what Cunha was running on?
