Motor Oil To Use for your Boosted Honda?
I have been using Mobil 1 sysn 10W-30, Multi-vehicle Formula and changing the oil 2000 to 2500 miles for about 10k miles now and last changed i also used the STP Oil treament stuff, worked fine, and now I have to change my oil, but pep boys, wall mart and karen are all of it, they only have a 0w-10 brand, so i was asking around and my firend has a turbo mr2, and he said to use valvoline VR1 Racing
So i bought valvoline VR1 Racing and i got the SAE 50 Motor Oil
Think that is 2 thick for a turbo d16? @ 10 psi?
Just wanted to know becase im going to change the oil tommarow, also im mad lazy im about to just drive the car up on brikes, not that safe, but has anyone else done it?

10w-40 or 5w-40 is what I use on Honda turbo motors. If the car had previously been using non synthetic or synthetic then I stick with that type of fluid.
Oh, usually castrol or Mobil 1 too..

i use Mobile 1 5w-30 or 0w-40 for the cold *** MN winters and 15w-50 for the hot humid summers. reason why i use thinner oil is cause it's harder to start your car in the cold with thicker oil. oh, and another thing, turbo spools up slower with thicker oil as well.

ive heard good things about rotella oil(shell oil used mostly by diesels). its pretty cheap(about $5-6 for a gallon i think) and is supposed to be really good stuff. i use it in my sv650s.

Right now I'm using Shell Fully Synthetic 15W50 on my car. I plan to change oil & filter every 5000km or so. For my next fill I might try Motul 300V Competition 15W50 or Silkolene Pro R 15W50.

Re: (-TRINiTRON-)
what about amsoil, anyone using that. From what i have heard with the proper filter from the company you can run that oil for an extremely long period of time, like 10k miles with no problems.

i've been using 5w30 in the MN winter and 10w30 in the summer on my 6psi setup. is this too thin for a low-boost motor? i didnt know it was so common to run thicker oil........

even though you can go 3 or 4 times as long without changing your oil, it still costs about 5 times as much so its kind of a wash...
