i just wanted to post that my friend just got the motec plm and that thing is amazing. he has two cars he used it on today, he has a 2nd gen gsx and a 89 civic hatchback. first we took out the gsx with the plm and used his pms to correct the air fuel ratio and found out that his car was running rich throughout boost. we took like 5 full throttle runs and i swear the car got like .5 seconds faster in the QM, and it only took like a half hour. then we took out his hatcback which has a crx si motor in it with his custom turbo setup and built motor, the problem with this car was he is running 660cc injectors and a zdyne secu and he could never even get the car to barely idle. well we got the car started, plugged in the motec and the labtop for the zdyne and took her out. before when we took it out it ran like **** , sputtering and stuff, well we took it out to find out the car was running way rich and took a couple wot runs and messed with the zdyne and the car started running soooo good it was sweet. so the point of this story is this thing is awesome, a good tuning tool and very accurate and worth the money he spent. i just felt i should share this with the rest of the board.

The best/lowest price amateur lambda sensor out there right now is the FJO one.

At ~$800.00 for the package, you just can't beat it. It's a properly calibrated UEGO sensor.

After that I would probably go for the M&W controller/UEGO sensor.

But what is the Motec plm, ... is that the Palm or PDA based analyzer that was in the banner ads?
And, how did he "plug it in" to both a Honda and a DSM (separate connector cables?)

Universal Exhaust Gas Oxygen (UEGO)

It's a very fast, very accurate wideband O2 sensor. Any controller you buy should be able to take the calibration chips that are sold with the sensors. There's a good technical article here:

How much did the Motec one cost your friend? I've seen it listed for $1200...
I've been thinking about getting some sort of wideband O2 for use as a tuning tool with my Hondata.

There's some neat information on the Hondata web site about using the Motec meter in conjunction with the software.

yeah its definately cool that it can go from a dsm to a honda. the display is like the size of like pack of cigarettes and it displays the air fuel,very accurate the second he would make a change on the pms the air fuel # would change almost immediatley. i think he paid like 1200 for it but i am sure he will make some of his money back when he lets other people use it for $.

I would recommend the FJO over the Motec. Cheaper; does exactly the same thing. 5 watt output, rs232 output, and 3 digit display. You can get the software to datalog the runs against RPM if you don't have a 5watt input on your standalone, or don't have a standalone at all.

does the FJO have an O2 voltage output like the Motec PLM? I know that for Hondata and probably many other standalones, you can hook up a single wire from the control box to the ECU. The wire contains an analog voltage that corresponds to the lambda value, for tuning purposes...

So I was wondering, how do you hook this up to your car? Can you just unscrew your factory o2 sensor and screw the wideband one in? (assuming your ECU supports running open loop w/o a standard o2 sensor)

that is what my friend was doing because he didnt get around to welding a bung on the 2 cars downpipes. but i am not sure if you can do this on any car because he had a zdyne on one and pms on the other so i dont see this working on a car with no ecu management.

What about the Blitz A/F Analyser. It comes with a wide band O2.

Yeah well my Hondata will let me run without the stock o2 sensor, i just wanted to see if the threads will physically match up.
This is really sounding like a good buy now, if i can get it for $800 and then make a couple hundred lending it out to friends, then it will definitely be worth it compared to spending tons of $ on the dyno. (I've already spent nearly $400 on the dyno and i need to go back)
