Default Moates Ostrich eprom emulator...

Quick question. Does the Moates Ostrich eprom emulator replace the chip in the ecu or is it just used to build a map and then you have to burn a chip? I'm trying to get everything I need to tune and I don't know if I need a chip burner AND the eprom emulator or just the emulator.

THANKS!!!

both.

technically you could leave the ostrich in the car all the time, but 99.9% of people use the ostrich to tune, then burn a chip afterwords.

I bought both back when I started tuning, and I've burned a chip maybe twice. I guess I mess with mine so much that it's too much trouble to constantly switch between them. Unless you want to tune other people's cars, the Ostrich is all you need.

I don't know anyone who does this.

No I don't know anyone who uses an ostrich to tune their car and then burns a chip. What's the point of owning an ostrich and a burner? The ostrich is designed so you leave it in 24/7. Burning a chip is a PITA and a waste of time if you want to make small adjustments.

This is GetawayInMoscow BTW.

So you want the tuner to demand that everyone he tunes buy an ostrich so he doesn't have to burn a chip.

For the guy that is only tuning his car, he can get away with just the ostrich. But obviously Joe is talking about tuning more than just his.

And even with my own personal car i use the ostrich to tune and then burn a chip. I would rather not have someone kicking around my ostrich while they are in the passenger seat.

My point is if you are going to buy either a burner or ostrich, it would be stupid to buy both.

Furthermore, it would be even stupider to burn a chip if you own an ostrich and don't plan on tuning other cars with it.

If you disagree that's fine with me. But for those of us who actually take our cars to the track it's nice to be able to make changes without having to burn a new chip and take apart my ECU after every pass I make.

I really don't see how you can mess with the car that much. If I tune my car, it is usually once. I might change the tune once every couple months. So I guess if you are messing with stuff all the time, it is a good decision to keep the ostrich in there.

But I think most people would feel more comfortable with a chip in the ecu. But it really doesn't matter and is pointless to keep arguing. So end of the discussion is do whatever you want.

Well I have to change the 2 step based on how well the track is prepped and if i have my DRs or street tires. Lots of people have a race gas tune and a pump gas tune.

That or an input based map switching option.
