Re: (ucacrx)
They arent a bad ECU, but they've received criticism from some users for having a not quite tunable enough map (ie can get the car running good but not great). Then again other users reckon its great.
I'll say make sure the tuner is up to the task. I'd choose haltech over it though

microtech are good, but teh tuning resolution points are quite rough and limited, hence sum ppl say its not runing quite right. For the money tho, they are good systems, but they are not the best for fuel consumption.

Re: (AllVersionSi)
Micro-tech has been used widely in the RX-7 scene. I have heard few piston guys using them. oh and just becasue you have a stand alone doesnt mean that the car wont idle or stuff like that. I have seen alot of cars on stand aolne on the street too and you cant tell etiher.

Re: (Blueprint)
like all computers, the tuner is key. It can run like factory or it cna run like crap depending on the tuner.
I've found microtech to be quite good. But for an extra 300 USD or so, Id rather go the Autronic SMC. The Rx7 scene widely uses this computer because ppl said that the tuning point is too limited for piston motors. Again all up to the tuner.

Re: (freakie)
Freakie,
the tuning points are identical to a e6k haltec, so saying that is pointless, they come with a inbuilt 2.5 bar map sensor good for 20psi and have a optional 3 bar map sensor, rpm points every 500rpm to 9000rpm, can control your vtec no problems at all, come with a base map to suit your motor, if you get a LTX8 you can run DFI to get more spark!

Re: (10sec_rx7)
Maybe with the newer ones, with the older Microtech's its well known that they are more suited to drag cars that go open throttle virtually non-stop and rotaries. Hence fuel consumption was compromised in many applications.
However as i said before they arent bad ECU's and with a good tuner can run well, especially their newer ECU's.

If what you say is true (rpm points 500-9000 at every 500rpm interval) this ecu has greater resolution than a stock honda ecu. So saying its not 'tunable enough' would be innaccurate and I would blame the guy tuning.

the older ecus had one load and idle map with rpm corrections, they worked fine for street cars when they were tuned right, most tuners didnt set the corrections,
the current LT series have load points every 500rpm and the new series will have user denfinable everything,
there are plenty of hondas here running the microtechs with out any problems at all,
