Is this an OK thing to do? I don't feel like spending at least $185 on a greddy electrical oil pressure gauge..

....when I could spend $50 on an autometer liquid filled mechanical oil pressure gauge.

Autometer does sell a electrical oil pressure gauge for $50, but it is only partial sweep.

you can run the mech oil pressure gauge... make sure to double check your connections make sure they are tight and not leaking... obviously the oil can make a BIG mess.

someone posted a long time ago about letting his buddy help and ended up with all the oil on his legs and in the cabin.

I just install my mechanical one... just be sure that the 1/8 plastic line pass thru your dash safely.... I passed my line in another plastic line to be safe... and dont overtight the fitting... this can cut the line...

You can get an Isolator from Autometer if you don't want any live and hot oil to enter the cabin.

i personally wouldn't use a mechanical oil pressure guage, but as someone above said if you do end up using one and you keep that nylon plastic line that comes with most kits make sure you protect that by pushing it through some type of silicone line.

For oil pressure I would ge with electronic. It's just less hassle and worry.

I'd prefer an electrical. About an hour after we finished my friend's install and were test driving it, we noticed 0 oil pressure. Turns out the plastic got cut or fell out of the sender unit - dumping 3 qts in about 30 seconds. Not to see we weren't to blame for this (over tightening maybe), but I'd opt for the electrical. Oh and mess wise - may dad's leaked all over inside the car - what a mess.

autometer sells the steel braided hose kit for there gauges in summit i believe its like 40 bucks, if anything i ran mine with at least the copper line, its like 12 bucks, i deff would hookup the nylon line they provede. i have the copper and its been fine for like 6 months now no leaks! just make sure you leave slack in the engine bay so the engine doesent tug on the line!

sorry deff would not hook up nylon line!

ive been using a vdo mech. oil press guage for about 6 months and i got the oil line kit at napa for like $2 and just hooked it up to my oil press sending unit. it works great.

well I just went to Extreme Parts, a shop near me that a couple friends run, and bought a electrical 2 1/16 Defi oil pressure gauge.

my copper wiring snapped on me, oil all over the carpet, took forever to clean up. no biggie though... only thing that bugs me is the annoying zzZZZzz sound.

i used the autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge for 6 months with out a drop of oil leaking. Just make sure u do it right.

I have had my autometer mechanical gauge for probably 2 years using the nylon line, its been fine not a single leak always reads flawlessly, although if and when it does fail I will be pissed I thought about upgrading to an electrical but to get the one that matches my other gauges its like $230 can't justify that

been using my mechanical with the nylon line for multiple years, never had a problem. it comes down to installing it properly and routing your lines efficiently.

I ran it with a -3an stainless line and it worked perfect. Little more money but the last thing I wanted was for the nylon line to break.

Get a stiff electrical wire, route it through, and once you're happy use it to pull your nylon line through. Ask your local plumber how to properly use compression fittings, and you'll be fine. Many people over-tighten the fittings and wonder why they leak. The ring will cut into the line if it's too tight or off-center.

I apologize, gotta bring it back from the dead again.... I got a noise that's driving me insane. Usually only after I've been driving a while, maybe once the oil is hotter? Idk..
But it seems like its coming from my oil pressure gauge and its driving me crazy. I've ran mechanical oil pressure gauges for years and never heard of this before. Although this is my first one in a Honda. The others were SBC and BBC which run on way less oil pressure. Wtf causes this noise?

i have without issue for over 5 years.

and for 5 yers i keep telling myself i will upgrade to a stainless braided line....but oh well

mechanical gauge will always be more accurate than electrical
