mechanical fuel pump, not pumping? WTF....
ok well, for the first time tonight we tried to get my street car running. im using the z10 wet sump oil system, with the mechanical fuel pump that bolts to the backside of the oil pump. the oulet on my fuel tank is about the same height as the inlet side of the fuel pump. when we primed the oil system, we got oil pressure but no fuel pressure. so we figured maybe the drill wasnt turning the pump at a high enough rpm to get the fuel moving. ???? hmmm. so we put the belt back onto the drive pully for the vacum/oil/fuel pump, turn the engine over with the starter and my battery charger on full blast.... still we got no fuel coming out of the pump. ?? the fuel rail is bone dry.
this is my first time ever messing with a mechanical fuel pump, is there someting that im not doin correctly ??
any ideas?
here is a picture of the pump. in the first pic im holding it in my hand. starting from the port that is closest to the block, i have the top port pluged, the middle one goes to the rail, and the lower port goes to a fuel pressure guage.
also, to add to this...
i have checked for leaks and such before the pump. thinking that maybe the pump is sucking air, and not getting enough "suction" to get fuel ? well needless to say, there are no "leaks"
also, i checked the fuel filter, thinking i might have installed it backwards or someting by accident, again. no luck.
everything seems to be ok, but its not...
help me, im ready to kick this damn car.
yea, so what, i double posted....sue me

Who makes the fuel pump? That fuel pump is basically a hydraulic pump. It can be set up to work in either direction. It may be currently set up to spin in the other direction. If it is set up for proper rotation, then it may not be self priming. You might need to prime the lines. Also the tank may need to be placed above the level of the pump to make it gravity primed.

if you know what you are doing, i'm sure it can be done. It would be nice to have some directions from the manufacturer.

lol, yes directions or instructions would be a major help, as i have never messed with something like this before.
sorry i missed one of your questions in a previous post, but "DSR" is the manufacturer of the fuel pump. duno if that helps or not

earl, im not sure if they have a website or not. ill have to search around.
ok i found the problem.....
i had originally installed the pump, the way i have it pictured up above. well that is the "wrong" way to install the pump, as it is flowing the wrong direction.
so i turned the pump around, swaped off the bulheads from each end, got ready to install the pump back onto my car..now that it is all set up to flow the correct direction..... bam..... the fuel pump now wont go on, due to an oil line going into the block (it hits the 12 An 90 degree fitting i have, in the stock oil filter location.)
im about to switch back to a big aeromotive pump

Not sure but I think you can turn it around the way it was and just reverse the impeller. The pump will have to come apart, of course. Let me know how it goes.
