Default Mechanical difference between WG and BOV?

I recently took apart my Tial WG and my Arc BOV. Internally they both appear to be the same thing. Im wondering what are the mechanical differences of a WG and a BOV. Also if they are in fact the same, could you use one in place of the other? Ive been bored with too much time to think, so these are just some questions that popped into my head.

BOV works under vacuum and a WG works under boost for starts.

I've heard of pro draggers using WG's for blow off valves before, I think the idea was that the turbo would always be producing 100% of what it can.

i'm no turbo god however common sense tells me that a BOV is not built to handle the high EGT's.

wg when at a set psi it opens a valve to stop the turbo building a higher pressure than what is set!!!! thus stopping you runnning 24psi or something stupid like that! Bov when you accelerate the turbine spins when you ease off the accelerator it is still spinning it doesn't stop instantly and so there is still pressure build! the bov exits it to the atmosphere to stop it trying to reverse the turbine and it prolongs the life of your turbo! you dont have to have one but it is very recomended that u do!!!

Yeah I understand what their function is. But Im trying to understand, " What physical differences make one a WG and the other a BOV?"

Waste Gates have valves that looks like a inlet or exhaust engine valve, where BOV's do not look like that and have more of a floating valve(not sure about all thoug, I think the HKS SSQ etc works a bit differently)
The rubber in both (Depending on model) is the same type, local guys pull BOV's apart and use the diaphrams to make wg's.

That is the main difference.

Most wastegates have a port on the side and one on the top as well. If you took a standard tial or deltagate mounted it on a charge pipe and hooked a vaccuum line to the top port which is normally unused and left the side port open it would work as a blow off valve. The boost pressure from the manifold would hold the diaphram down since its going through the top port untill you released the throttle and the vaccuum would pull it open and pressure from the charge pipe would push out through the wastegate. If they could flow enough and withstand the egts BOVs like the type s with the optional side port which is normally not used on them could be used as a wastegate if you hooked you mbc up to the side port and left the top one open.
