Is this me making a smart move or being a cheapskate? Pics inside
Well the Turbo project is almost done and im running out of money. So instead of Paying $299 plus shipping for a Maxrev down pipe or something simailr i went to this exhaust shop that does all the cars in my club and had him mkae his first down pipe. Total cost is $83.64
All in all it looks great , only down side its not %100 true mandrel bent , but for the price you cant beat it
and heres a pic of my bootleg air intake . ill be damned if im paying $150 + shipping for a drag intake type deal
so I went to A7A and tried to get just a filter and they said $50 i was like Woa , How much for the whole intake ? they Said $53.00 so i just bought the whole thing and will cut it down to angle the filter up
APC BAYBAY !

Looks good for a crush bend.I'm in the same boat, i'm going to need a new downpipe as soon as my turbo gets here.Luckly the muffler shop down the street has u-bends instock so i'm just going to have him make me one out of the u-bends.That way it will keep the same diameter.

That looks real nice. Like GraphiteAccord said.....you could get an elbow, mandrel bent piece at Napa or Jegs and weld it in place of the crushed part.

cut that bend out, and put a mandrel piece there.

yea its 2.5. I was gonna go with the 3in, but figured id spare the guy some strenuous effort, its a bitch to bend 3in i guess?
plus this way i have more room for other things just in case
all in all , i tihnk it looks great for the price, its deff enough to get me started , if it restricts me too much down the line , i was thinking of doing an exhaust cut out eventually for track use.

the downpipe isn't bad at all. lots of dsm's run in the 11's on crush bent downpipes and exhausts. most of them in the 12's easily.
however, down the road, buy a 90degree mandrel bent piece and weld it where your downpipe bends towards the flexpipe. looks noticeable narrow there.
as for the filter, i bet the flow numbers on it aren't very impressive.

put it this way on the intake i just got it becuase it was only a couple $ more thna the filter it self , at least now i can cut it down andhave it angle up and give m some more room
as far as the flow, its just staying on for the street for safety, on the track im gonna run no filter.
i dont think something like that cheesy *** filter is gonna slow me down enough to be noticable.

that looks very nice one question though: how did you show the muffler shop guy how you needed it done? i mean like did you have to bolt up your manifold and turbo for him to mock it up from there?

yea i pulled in and while he was working on something else i dropped the stock manifold and bolted up the turbo and manifld quick and then in the air he hs likew this thin metal thing that he just bent how the dp would be reouted and then put the [piping on the bender and made it exactly like the wire thing he bent , it wqas all pretty cool . i never saw that before.

I think it looks great. I did the same thing and here's my reasoning:
The stock internals on my SOHC motor are the limiting factor in my setup. I can easily turn up the boost to produce all the power my motor could possibly handle... with my crush bent downpipe. So why bother spending the extra time and money to improve on it? It's not the "weakest link" by a long shot. If I ever shoot for 250 whp, then I'll start making changes like that.

that bottle neck looks kinda disappointing. u should cut out that crush bend and weld in a mandrel bent piece of piping. i doubt it'll make much difference though. looks nice for 85 bucks

all mandrel is the best, but for $85, you got a nice down pipe man!!
quality looks excelnt for what you payed!! was it a big chain muffler shop, or just a private shop? i would have went your route
changes can come if needed
