That's actually what I had before, although the shop that installed it for me before put the brass fitting into my heater hose. So the guage would not read until my heater began circulating fluid. Any other ideas?

Put it inline with one of your TB coolant lines like the diagram says and you won't have that problem. The TB coolant lines are before the thermostat, so they get can flow before the motor is warm and the thermostat opens.......unlike being put in line with the heater core.
