Default making a turbo kit???

hey guy's, i am new to the turbo world, i will have a b18 in my 92 dx hatch soon. and i was wondering if i peiced together a turbo kit off of ebay, it would be cheaper then buying a kit?? if so can you list what i need, this is what i got so far.

intercooler
blow off valve
boost gauge
piping
manifold
downpipe
turbo
boost controller.

and which turbo you think i should get, i plan on building the head before i turbo it.

Some people will say its cheaper, all depends on the deals you get and the quality of the products.

You can buy a junkyard turbo to test with, and in my opinion you cant go wrong with one that is in decent condition. Make sure to be aware of bolt patterns and fitment if you plan to upgrade.

Wastegates need to work the best so dont buy used, and dont buy cheap. I recommend Tial.

Manifolds can be great deals, but I would go equal length best bang for the buck. And if its custom make sure you trust the maker. (Tinker219 on this forum)

BOV... all in what u like, used will do the trick if it works

After that you can order custom downpipe and charge pipes for cheap. DIY
Intercoolers... dunno cuz I dont plan to use Air to Air.

Finally make sure you dump research(time) and money into fuel management.

So enough of my bullshit...

Turbo - $100 to $1000 (or god knows what)
Manifold - $200 to $600
Wastegate - $250 shipped, dont go used, and consider it done
BOV - $100 to $300 (dont go over the 300 for a street car unless u want to)
EMS/FMU - Pack the money into that, and for a tuning (after u decide what turbo to run)
Pipework - $150 to $250 depends on where u live and what u already have
Small stuff - $100 to $150 (vac lines, tee's, oil lines, etc)

Ok my hand and head hurts, im sure I forgot somethin, but basically if you put the same amount of money into a DIY kit as you would in a product kit... you can do better than the product.

And as for the work you plan to do to the head... its a B18 leave the head alone for now and focus on the block if you plan to go more than 7-8psi daily.

every company with a kit I have installed SUCKS. The charge pipeing can always be better. and most DP i have seen are complete POS. Never get eneugh air flow. At work I installed a hella expensive single turbo on a mk4 supra. and the DP was horrid. I ended up scrapping it and makeing a new one that wasnt shhit. kits suck, they always turn out custom anyways when I install them.

when u asked how the deal will work w/a kit thats a pretty well limited topic that can be explained in a general idea... but for what turbo to run... you are gonna hafta be the one that does the research...

Start looking at T3/T04e, find compressor maps and study hard... its fun

Oh and dont make the mistake of blowing up your bottom end and damaging your head, that will cost you more money
