i mean we cant change main bearing from to :

b16 to b18
b18 to b20
b20b t0 b20z
b16a to b16a
b20b to b20b

you are not supposed to change the main caps from diffrent engines. it can be done but you must have the block line bored/honed after.

then after you find some ghetto machine shop who thinks they can line bore the block, you will have to toss it in the trash because they probably screwed up the centerline of the crank.

so.....find another block that is complete

Anyone know if swapping out the crank into the same block with main cap combo is OK?

yeah common practice is to keep the block and main caps together cuz they were machined together from the factory.

If you use different main caps than the block came with it needs to be line bored so that the bores are true. It's no big deal.

There are very few machine shops that can line bore a block and not change positioning of the crankshaft. If the crank moves up in the block you'll have oil pump problems. With the availability of b20 blocks, you are better off tossing that one and finding one with the mains intact.
