LS/VTEC VS. B20/VTEC for FI...
I dont know anything about the B20 vtecs. I have a buddy who is making decent power with his semi-built ls/vtec at 13 psi. I was boosting my old b16, but I want something more. and after seeing, riding, and driving his setup, I want to do an LSvtec build. But I started thinking that maybe the b20vtec would be a better idea.
Block will be sleeved, forged pistons, rods, everything. No stone left unturned on the block or head. It will be built to make lots of power. Aiming for at least 500 whp. This will be dropping into my 91 crx and mated to a 99-00 Si transmission with LSD.
What would be a safe rev limit for the b20 with the longer stroke? I'd like to take it out to 9 grand.
Anyone got recomendations on either setup over the other? Thanks!

talked on aim
but i do know someone with endyn roller wave pistons in a b20/vtec with darton open deck sleeves that held pretty nice...it was an all motor set up...but he is now doing a turbo build with the same block...i guess if you're going to do all out build and keep a stock crank...it's all about which one is better and makes more tq i would guess

crank will be knife edged and balanced. I'm thinking the setups would be very similar, but the b20 would make more tq and spool the turbo up a bit faster.

The B20 and LS have the same stroke, the only difference is the bore size and the B20 crank weighs more(I am pretty sure but not 100% sure). I would say go with the sleeved B20 block and a LS crank.

Either block will be good to go.
Since you are sleeving and building, it doesnt really matter.
If all you are looking for is the stroke, youll have your 89m, and then from there, you can get daring if you would like and get a Eagle or Crower crank.
I will talk to you more in person about it. I will also send some help your way for this thread.
I hate to say it, but search a little on it, see what people are doing and what their goals were compared to yours.
Also, and i know you have faith in your tuner, but with every setup, power and reliability will vary via the tuner...

i'd go with whatever block you can get cheaper, your going with sleeves right? all you need to do to make the ls a 2.0 is put in 84mm sleeves. That is unless your hung on getting the b20 written on the block.

That's why I like J. Davis. He looks at your goals and how you will use/drive that car and tunes accordinly. You tell him you need safe he goes safe, you want hp he gives you hp. He won't blow up your car just so he can post up impressive numbers.

Re: (cuin9sec)
Talked with Ben some and determined there is no difference that will reall ymean anything once the motor is boosted btwn the cranks. And once, it is sleeved, the larger bore wont mean jack. LS/Vtec FTW!
Now to the next question...closed deck sleeves or get the block super decked??

Re: (B16CRXT)
I will require this block to be able to cool and not overheat. I'd like to be able to drive it around and not have a strip ***** on my hands.

Re: (B16CRXT)
i'd just get closed deck sleeves...darton charges 900 dollars for the sleeves and to install MID sleeves in ur block...u send the block with 900 dollars and its done
