Ls Vtec crank girdle
Hi guys,
I'm doing a fully built ls vtec turbo to put in my ef.
I'm putting an itr head with itr cams.
How is important to do the girdle?
Can i leave it without?
It is a must to do the girdle?
Need some help please. Thanks

The girdle is going to help fight crank resonance at higher rpms. I've had no problems spinning ls blocks to 8500 without one, however, resonance is bad of course. Anything you can do to improve the stability of the bottom end is an improvement. A good balanced crank, girdle and fluid damper is safe. GoldenEagle sells a nice girdle.
I would say that the girdle is more for strength when having alot of power..
Harmonics because of improper balance will destroy a bottom end weather you have a girdle or not.. I personally dont think a girdle is going to help anymore than without when your talking higher rpms, but will strengthen the bottom end when used in higher HP applications..
I talked to Earl on here and he said that I didnt need one for my 400-450whp goals..

Or if you use the gsr main caps and have then line bored..

I have the itr girdle complete with strainer, bolts and everything but i need to do some machining on it.I think i will leave the block without the girdle.Instead of revving the engine like i use to do with itr turbo engine 9200 rpm i will rev it to 8000,i think it's enough with the std itr cams .I also have the Jdm itr 96 spec tranny with the 4.785 fd so that it helps alot when i shift.
What do you think guys?
Thanks

Is the block sleeved? I've seen ls blocks rev to 9K and up. I reved mine to 8500 for two years on the street (that was all motor 210 hp, no girdle). The block is still alive.
Get a girdle. there wicked cheap and its insurance. http://www.azracemachine.com
If you can afford to build the engine i think you can swing the 200 bucks for a girdle and know its going to hold up. i dont have a girld on my straight ls reving to 8k but im installing one next weekend because i plan on revving to about 8500 with my new tubo program. good luck

yes it will hold together no question if its built right but the thing is this, i dont care how well you built the engine. through research and devlopment they have found that there are more chances of bearing/crankshaft walk due to vibration not only that but aluminum with high hp distorts causing the caps to move and causing bearing failure
that being said for 200 bucks its insurance on your motor.

You would need to use a gsr oil pickup and pan and windage tray. or if you have an aftermarket pan then all moroso pans work. you would also need to use a set of gsr main bolts or arp main studs for a gsr. good luck
