Default GSR block with LS crank?

I was thinking of doing an LS/Vtec and some kid brought to my attention to do a GSR block with a LS crank. That way I can still have the Vtec bottom end with the LS rod/stroke.

Im still thinkin of tons of stuff to do to my car, but I like this idea. Wanted to run it by you guys to see what the advantages were or if it could be done.

Thanks.

Matt

He probably meant B18C1 Duh????

I'm going with this setup. Alot of HT members seem to like it and it works well. Search it around the all motor thread. I made a post about it not too long ago, plenty of 411.

I was reading the discussions on similar topics.

Are you guys going with LS rods or the GSR rods when running the 89mm LS crank on the gsr block?

I've read most guys are running this combo but i want a straight answer to my question.

What pistons will go well with the LS rods without machining them?

Also...what happens to the oil squirters when running an LS crank in the GSR block? Do they need to be bent in anyway or taken out?

using the GSR botom end is the correct way to go LSvtec. That way u have a bottom end designed for high rpm. Also u need to run LS rods with an ls crank.

I am presently doing this build and definitely require "correct information"

B18c1 block with jdm b18a crank and rods with pr3 pistons.

The ls rods have to be bored out and milled on each side to fit in the pr3 pistons-i have done it

the oil squirters just needs to be bent upwards to avoid clearance.

when assembled the pr3 pistons stick out of the block deck until the top piston ring
comes out:

HELP: what is the problem

You used the wrong rods, the LS rods are longer than the GSR, you should have used the GSR rods with the LS crank.

Definately incorrect. The LS has a longer stroke so it uses shorter rods as to not throw the pistons 'out of the hole'. If you were to run GSR rods on an LS crank, you would have MAJOR piston to combustion chamber clearance issues...

I've heard you need custom pistons for this if you keep the LS rods? Makes sense..

nope. LS Rods LS crank and any VTEC B series pistons will be fine.

How about custom pistons with GSR rods? What would that make?

If you raised the wrist pin area you could use GSR rods.

exactly. thats how im fitting an ls crank, and ls pistons into a b16. but to answer the question at hand, an ls crank and rods in a gsr block with gsr pistons will yield you the same ls displacement and r/s ratio, and you wont have to frankenstien it like a true "ls/vtec."

It's easiest to just use a LS rotating assembly in the GSR block - same deck height...

as for the oil squirters, usually the counterweights hit them, so either bend them up a bit of mill a little off... mixed responses on this, but just modify them- better safe than sorry --

Yea you could use custom pistons... but why? - just use the ls rod and a b-series piston. - Note: LS and GSR piston compression heights are different from factory, but aftermarket companies manufacture one piston for all b-series (changes compression)

GSR rods are longer than LS rods. GSR: 5.430" LS: 5.394"

I'm running this setup- Honda LS crank, Eagle LS rods, Arias B-series forged pistons (all the same)

i have a gsr with a ls crank in it. its been sleeved and bored to 84mm using wiseco pistons. for some reason or another there have been a few people have problems with the oil squirters when using wiseco. i had to plug my squirters 3 of the 4 were hitting the crank or piston good setup

Are you talking about main or rod bearings? In both cases i would stick with LS bearings.

so many people have put on the PR3 pistons on the LS rods and they fit without any machining done to the rods. U do need to take the rod and piston to a machine shop so they can press the wrist pin onto the piston and rod. they heat up the rod so it expands and then slip the wrist pin onto the rod and piston. thats the correct way of doing it. i've never heard of anyone machine n thet PR3 pistons to fit the LS rods.

WOW this is old and probably shoudnt be brought up, but i am running ls rods/crank in my gsr fine with no problems, other than when it first started, i forgot to bend the squirters slightly and they were getting hit by the bottom of the pistons, but they've bent and its fine now. i used oversized jdm itr pistons, stock ls rods (sold my eagle rods, god damnit) and a regular old ls crank with acl bearings, and it runs fine.

sell the gsr bottom, get an LS bottom, and have money left for new pistons and such...

I dont know what kind of equipment you use to measure things, but there is no way in hell the LS con rod is longer than the Gs-R. FYI.

i'm running this setup right now. Everything is running fine. Use the ls rods and crank, Ls main and rod bearings. I used the jdm p30 pistons
