GSR & LS transmission and gear questions....?
Am I better off getting a GSR transmission and swapping the LS 5th into or using my LS housing and putting in a GSR 3rd and 4th?
my car is a turbo LS-V, only making 400. i would like to go for more later, but its just a street car. i may take it to the track here and there. i have read numerous threads about GSR vs LS for boost. my conclusion to all them is a GSR with the LS 5th. but i would like to know if all gears are interchangeable and if i will run into any issues?
also if i am using an LS 5th, am i to buy an LSD for the LS or GSR? thanks

the cases are all the same, its easier to just swap out 5th gear then to pull everything apart to swap out 3rd and 2th plus the gsr second gear has a larger syncro which slows the gear down quicker for faster/smoother shifts

I have found that a GSR gear set with the LS final drive is awesome for cars making above 350. My friend Chris has one in his integra and gringotegra also and both have excellent experiences with this hybrid trans.

Well i've been running a gsr with ys1 ls 5th gear and ls final drive for a long time. It's great for highway driving and the shorter gears down low are fun. I'm around 400whp.

Exactly! This is imo the best trans setup for a simple street car! I will be finishing mine when I find an lsd that is in my price range. I cannot wait! This hitting the rev limiter s@#* at the 1000ft sucks ***!

I have 225 50 15 BFG's and my limiter is at 8k. I have done the calculator for tire size and it says I am supposed to be able to go mid 120's but it just doesn't happen. The best I have trapped by standing on the limiter for about 150' was 118. It seemed to run out of breath on top end from 7500 and up and I believe my 2" hot pipe was to blame. I just made a new 2.5 hot pipe and it pulls like a freight train all the way to 8k now.

at 80mph you will be right around 3500rpm with the ls 5th gear and final drive if you are maintaining the 4.4 final drive you wil be around 3800rpm at 80mph vs gsr 5th gear is 4000rpm at 80mph
