LS turbo spark plug problem.
Well my friend's boosted ls has been running great up until tonight. Now whenever it builds full boost(10psi around 5000 rpms) the car starts cutting out like spark is being blown out or something. It never did this before and has been running well for months ever since being tuned. The car runs an afr in boost of 11.5:1 and the timing is conservative. After pulling the plugs cylinders 1,2, 4 look perfect, but cylinder 3 has a powdery looking material on the electrode that looks almost like corrosion. The plugs he is using are the platinum 1-step colder plugs. I told him to get the ngk copper plugs, but apparantely he didn't.
When i swapped the spark plug from cylinder 3 over to 4 and did a pull the car didn't seem to cut out at all and after pulling the plugs again the new plug that we put in cylinder 3 looked perfect and the old shitty plug from number 3 that was now in 4 looked about the same as it did before. Any idea whats going on? I would have taken pics of the plugs, but i didn't have a camera.

how old are the plugs? the reason i ask is my car was having the sputtering problem @ high rpms . and i thought i might be the spark getting blown out . but a new set of plugs solved the problem right away.

well # 3 always runs a little leaner, i wonder if thats what those particular plugs look like when they run lean? im kinda puzzled too.
i would definately switch from platinums to copper 2 step colders. .030 on the gap is just about what i run with no probs.

also run 1 layer of electrical tape bewteen the boots of the plug wire, this helps prevent it from arching and maint tains consistant ignition to the plug
as mentioned b 4 copper plugs NGK 7's

well we figured out the problem. His turbo was only being held on by 1 bolt . Its a lot clearer now that its light out. As far as the spark plug is concerned though i think your right about them needing to be switched out to the ngks. thats what i told him to get in the first place

haha yea it was dark out before so we didn't notice that all his bolts had fallen off. I'll have to try that tape trick though

tell him to gap it to .025
That kept my spark from blown'n out @ 15psi, 4 cracked sleeves and my temp gauge on "H" still trapped a 116 too jk
Tell Ian he needs to switch plugs unless he wants to turn out like that hatch you guys raced. lol blown up... lol lata shue, its my bed time
