longer gear ratio.

depends on what you want, a qucik car, or a high speed "highway" car.

This has been covered just a few times less than LS/VTEC. The LS tranny is not the best for boost. Its a toss between the GSR tranny or a type R. Someone put it best when they said while your in boost longer with a LS tranny I will be pulling past you with a GSR tranny.

The LS tranny is god for boost myth has been passed on from Ricer camp fires all across the country . Seriously though the sad thing is it that most poeple who tell you this/believe this aren't even boosted

Truth is acceleration is what you want, and that's what the shorter gearing will give you, however I think there is such thing as too short. I think the b16 is just too short, and doesn't help gas mileage(revs) and not to mention is won't help you on those Highway races. I think the Gsr tranny is the best compromise for the average street car, but it really comes down to what kind of racing you'll be doing.

I've had both the Ls and gsr tranny for boost, and this LS tranny is a dawg, 3rd & 4th gear almost put me to sleep

Iggy who misses his gsr tranny in his old setup

Isnt the b16 tranny good for the 1/4 because of the shorter gears?

It really depends on how high you're reving, power, what size slicks, etc. All of our buit FI setups run GSR trannies, that's after testing S4C's ('99-00 Si) and nonVTEC LS's. With anywhere from 350-600whp the GSR tranny has worked great for us. Above that we still use the GSR (like on Duc's) but are working on regearing certain gears as they kill you when you drop out of boost. Just my $0.02 tho

I'm using an S1...from a 90-93 USDM Integra LS Special Edition. I love the gear ratios in it.

Transmission Code: S1/YS1
From these Models: 90-93 USDM Integra LS,
RS,GS Special Edition
LSD?: NO
Transmission Type: Cable
1st Ratio: 3.167
2nd Ratio: 1.857
3rd Ratio: 1.259
4th Ratio: 0.935
5th Ratio: 0.743
Rverse Ratio: 3.000
Final Drive: 4.400

Just curious but how much power are you making, what tire size, and have you tried a VTEC tranny? The LS tranny has <U>always</U> slowed us down, the gearing is just too long...

Right now I'm running 205x50x15's on the street. I will be boosting in a month or so, so I won't have numbers until then. I am shooting for 250 whp. I have 24.5 inch slicks for the track. I would definately upgrade to a GSR tranny if I could afford it, but I am certainly not disappointed with my S1 tranny. I'm actually thinking of taking my 4.4 FD from the S1 and putting it in my Y1 for even shorter gears. Here are the Y1's ratios:

Transmission Code: Y1
From these Models: JDM CRX/Civic
SiR (EF-8/9)
LSD?: OPTIONAL [I don't have one though]
Transmission Type Cable
1st Ratio: 3.167
2nd Ratio: 2.052
3rd Ratio: 1.416
4th Ratio: 1.103
5th Ratio: 0.870
Reverse Ratio: 3.000
Final Drive: 4.266

Thanks! I had the Y1 in for about a year, but pulled it because the bearings are getting ready to go. I just did a fresh rebuild on the S1...new bearings and seals. Hopefully I can do the same in the Y1 and replace the 3/4 gear synchro set, and install the 4.4 FD.
