Default LS Motor

Sorry for the waste of bandwidth.. but i decided to FI on a LS rather than to do that on a GSR.

Well my LS motor has about 161k miles on it. Do you guys think its a good idea to slap a turbo kit on it? I have about 3 grand to spend.. and plus i dont know which kit to go with. If you're wondering what my goals are.. i just want to boost at 10psi.. and plus this is going to be my daily driver.. should i just buy a kit and hondata? or do ineed a lot more? help me out thanks.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I dont think your $3000 will cut it. Thats what I intended to spend and it has gone well over that. Even if you find a kit for $2000 there is still so much stuff you need that you will smash your budget in like 48 hours. On thing that I forgot to take into consideration was exhaust. If you buy a hondata your looking at $400+ an exhaust will be $350+ Injectors $250+ and those numbers are VERY conservative.

What he said!

Unless you have major hookups and experience with:
1) Welding
2) Tuning
3) Install
4) Troubleshooting (this is the biggest)

You'll blow that budget in a sec!

Save up a little more in reserves first...but then still shoot for the $3k budget...if anything, its better to have money left over.

As far as boosting an LS with that high mileage...i dont think its a problem. Just make sure its in tip top shape before you go changing anything.

Yes, u can do it....BUT, it will be borderline to what u have to spend....I suggest buying everything used to save a little money, and as far as the motor holding up, search under my screen name to see how my 161,000 mile ls is doing....Just be sure the motor is in good running condition,as well as doing comp and leakdown tests....

3k is a good start but if you want to go with hondata I would look into the neighborhood of having atleast $3800-4k to spend. Also if your not obd1 youll need to do the conversion.

To give you an idea im @ $3200 right now wiht turbo kit, exhuast, gauges,

Im in process up purchasing hondata/injectors tuning wont be too much so im looking to spend a total of just under $4k

Damn but i still need a clutch

^^and another example of the added cost^^

Ok im starting to understand a little bit more now.

Lets say i bought the greddy kit with FMIC and bov.. i saw them go for ~1500 used in the classified.. so i would need injectors, Hondata and tuning? Those numbers would fall right into $3000? I already have an exhaust. Apex N1.

like others mentioned before, there are more costs than you think. I needed my exhaust installed at a shop, b/c the DRAG downpipe comes without a flange on the end. They welded on the flange, but then said the exhaust wouldn't fit, so they had to cut, re-weld the downpipe, reposition both O2 sensors, and install the Carsound Cat. Total cost: $510.

oh ok. Is there any other problems that i might run into.. now its at $2000 with exhaust... excluding hondata and tuning.

Also id rather just go with a custom piping $220 at speedway mufflers. soo... $~1500 + $220 = $1720

^^ Damn $510 that sux

Thats why the more research you do, the more efficiently your $ gets spent. I plan and plan and plan, do research until my head hurts on a setup im going to run. Just so everything goes as planned.

Mistakes in this game can be costly.

As far as the greddy kit, I never liked it because it wasn't in my power goals, also there are thins such as fuel management included that ou won't use. I wouldnt base my decision on whats cheapest, but instead whats best for your setup.

I would look into maybe piecing together a kit sicne your going hondata anyways. It will take more time, patience, research, but in the end you will save $, gain knowledge and most important youll have the best parts for your setup.

It wasn't a mistake, it's a 3" Thermal mated to the 2.5" downpipe from drag. I'm not sure why they had so much trouble with it.

I was speaking in general not specifically your case. Honestly in your case it looks like its the muffler shops fault. They should have hung exhaust up to see where it stood, then placed cat in place to see fitment, and then cut or added to your downpipe to make sure everything fit, then add flange. Simple as that, I think they just charged you labor for thier own mistake on them

How much boost do u plan on running????If you are not planning to boost higher than 10 psi for a while, just buy a cheaper fuel management for the time being....I am boosting 10 psi on pump gas, and up to 14-15 psi on race gas w/ no problems using safc/440s/aem frp/fjo w/b.....with no problems

My car was $1300, my motor was $1500, I built my own turbokit for about $1900, hondata+tune+injectors was $600. Not bad if you ask me, its all about the deals you find in the classifieds. All my parts are pretty damn good, I didn't skimp in the important areas.
