Default Loud Boom!

Ok I was driving tonight and another turbo'd car pulls up next to me, so we were screwing around and I misshifted going about 65 I went from 5th to 2nd and there was some sort loud boom that came from my car so we pulled off in a lot and checked it out. Nothing seemed to be wrong. So I left and meet up with a friend and while I was in my car waiting for him the check engine light came on and it started idleing real funny any ideas? It still boost so I don't think its any hoses or anything like that. Maybe I bent the valves?!

Check your cam timing first. The others may be right, but don't give up hope yet. When you accelerate the engine like that, the chance of skipping a tooth or ? is very possible. You will probably find that the the cam(s) are retarded.

Do a compression test real quick and see what you come out with.

Yes!!, do a compression test. But realize that low numbers from a static comp test *can* be due to cam timing problems. Don't buy an engine until you check the cam timing.

good call. I've gone from 5th to 2nd doing about 50-55...it's called down-shifting...makes the car accelerate... 65 probably didn't even bring the engine to 8000...so, it's probably not that bad, though the CEL is a scarey thing

Check your plugs, you could have blown off the tip. Its the engine backfiring in the combustion chamber. Its either that or you blew your headgasket.

The valves were totally screwed. Place I took it to said they were the worst they had seen.

ah, don't feel bad man, i had a big block nova w/a rachet shifter, you know the kind that doesn't let you go in reverse...driving to work early one morning, tired as hell, hit the shifter, kinda wet out, kicked her sideways... bang it into 3rd, then for some damn reason i pulled up on the shifter and stuck it in reverse, luckily it was wet out. it just locked right up.... no damage though hehe everyone does dumbass stuff
