Default Loss of Boost

Hey,

This is about my buddies DSM(Sorry). Alot of knowledge in this forum, so I'm going to try to post it hear. Anyways, the car has;
Forced Performance Green Model Turbo w/ Internal wastegate (http://linux.forcedperformance.net/m...Code=DSM-Turbo), 3' dp and exhaust, couple of other things. Anyways the problem is at his high boost setting he use to hit 20psi. Now he's only hitting 16-17psi. What could cause this? Somethings I can think of off the top of my head is a boost leak somewhere along the pipping. He also has a QTP exhaust cut out, but that seems to be sealing properly. Lastly, recently he blew the adjusting screw off his Greddy Type S Bov, and a shop had to dissasemble the bov to re-tap the hole and put a new one in. Could it be they didn't put it back together and it's got a leak from the Bov? Basically how can you check for leaks in the system? Thanks for looking.

take a spray bottle (like a windex bottle or somethin) and fill it with soap and water. Spray all areas of the pressurized system and if you see bubbles forming somewhere, that will be you boost leak. And don't worry about sprying that everywhere around your engine, it won't do anything, just avoid distributor/fuses/battery and loose electrical, that's it. Did he do a mod then notice the drop? If so, undo the mod and see if that fixes it.

No he recently hasn't done any mods. To only thing that gets close to a mod is the bov issue he had. I'm going to try doing what you said with the soap. Also, the car being at idle is ok? Or would some sort of boost have to be built to check? Thanks for your help.

Does he know what his EGT's are? My guess is that a slight loss in max psi could be from a cracked housing around the wastegate, but more than likely that'd just delay spool-up a bit.

Technically speaking, checking BOV the for leaks isn't recommended at idle. To check it, remove it and block the hole. Try for max boost, but don't push the car very hard, and especially don't close the throttle fast. If you get back to max psi with it off, you know what to do. I just took my Type-S apart, and I doubt that it could be the problem, unless the BOV is set extremely loose and/or they ripped the rubber boot inside the cap of the BOV.
