Just aquired a 00 Civic Si with a B18c1 swap. Its been a while since Ive been in the Honda game so not very keen on what the go to stuff is anymore. Im Interested in turboing the car at some point. My goal is about 400hp to make for a quick street car/ weekend racer. Im told this motor has 9.8:1 eagle pistons and eagle rods already and I want to know good options for a fast spooling turbo thats capable of that power. If I could buy a full kit that would be ideal but mostly been looking on go-autoworks. Im just unfamiliar with what turbos spool fast with the 1.8L the garretts or precision turbos were mostly what Ive been looking at.

Go-Autoworks has some decent pieces, especially manifolds, but even if you get a kit from him you should expect to have to make at least some minor changes with lines/fittings. I would definitely recommend at a minimum getting the manifold, DP, and dump tube as a hot side kit either from GA or somewhere else.

 

after searching Im planning on going with them as far as hardware stuff. my question is with the turbocharger itself. Ive been wondering about the precision 5831, my concern is regarding how long it takes these B18's to spool it. I did stumble across a couple threads. the term disco potato made me laugh but this was another one talked about.

 

Disco potato refers to the very old GT2860RS turbo. The GTX2860R is a more modern version of this (at this point still fairly old) with a billet compressor wheel. 2867 being similar with a larger compressor wheel and more overall power.

2867 would spool essentially instantly on a healthy B18C. I am less familiar with Precision turbos as it's now been almost a decade since I've done anything with one, but I've never trusted their journal bearing CHRAs - I've seen very requent failures and experienced one myself on a 5558.

 

Something in the 56-58mm sizing. Me personally, i wouldnt want a turbo thatll be close to maxxing out (Again).

 

Email or call Greg @ Go-Autoworks. He'll put you on the right turbo. I made 400 whp with the Turbonetics TNX C15...it's a 52/57 with all new aero (well....it was new about 2 years ago). It's ball bearing, small-ish, and spooled great.
