Default Looking for a more efficient turbo for a 600whp D16.

My overall goals are breaking 600whp with my d16y8. Motor is completely built. I'm currently using an precision T3 SC61 with stage 5 exhaust wheel, S cover, .63 a/r. I am just wondering if there is a better, more efficient turbo out there for my goals. Faster spool, better powerband and just overall more efficient.

Maybe its just me. Should I just stick with what I have or is there something better suited for me? Thanks!

Not unless you're trying to spend a bit more on your budget. "Fast spool" for 600whp just isn't really realistic. Is your Precision circa 2006 and before?

You may want to check out Lighteningteg's. He started out with an SC6152 as well

600whp is a lot from a d form any 4 cylinder really so limited on what your looking for. the 6262 or 6266 will make more power than your sc61 and it will spool quicker and give more of a powerband but still be more peaky power

No real budget... Yes, my SC61 is old. I bought it in 2006. ALthough it only has around 1k miles on it. I built the car and then it sat in the garage for 5 years while I traveled.

I know "fast spool" is unrealistic. I've been out of the scene for a very long time and everything else came a ways it seems... I just figured there had to be better options by now.

You've got a few. check out that thread of lighteningteg's. Then PM me for real options outside that typical 6266 and 6262 stuff that everyone and their uncle uses.

Old school SC61 dude, that's awesome. Haven't heard many people using those lately haha. I came in here to post about looking into the 6262 but it looks like a few people already beat me to it.

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't the 6262 seem a bit excessive for my goals? It looks like an efficient turbo but I don't need something that'll make 750whp if I'm just looking to break 600. Wouldn't the 5857/58 be a better choice? Like I said, a little increased spool time and efficiency is all I'm looking for. Keep in mind, this is for a D16.

BTW, TheShodan, you have a PM.

The D is like the ls it's takes a little larger turbo to make the same power a b vtec will do. The 6262 spools. Better then your older sc61 and will make the power. Mac aka threshold an can also modify your sc61 into a capable and more efficient turbo with a better wheel combination.

5857 isn't going to do it on a D, it's just not efficient enough of an engine. I know, I had that setup. I made a tick over 400whp with 27psi, and while it was only on a street tune, not even a dyno tune was going to get me anywhere near the 600 range.

6262 will probably get you close, but no matter what you're going to have to push it with that engine.

We made a little over 550whp on our d16z6 on the 5857 @ 25 lbs. I'm sure we could of crack the 600 mark if we up the boost more. Then again every setup is different.

There is this turbo made by Comp.

I don't remember it but it's like Gt30 sized but good for 800whp.

also it DOESN'T use oil. no oil feed, no oil drain.

it's all ceramic.

will spool really really fast.

expensive tho

Huh? No way.. Even Comp's CT3-6765's could barely do close to that. In addition, the optional self-contained cartridges utilize lubrication fluid that must be changed every 50k, which is even more expensive, just like the Aeronautical Rayjays they got the idea from. The bearings are ceramic. (Just like Precision and Turbonetics). The compressor is actually 67mm sized, but the turbine is MUCH larger. Not even close to a GT30 sized unit, (which couldn't do 600whp anyway).

i would think the garrett gtx3576r would be the fastest spooling turbo for the job. But i have a felling you would have to over size the turbo a littler for the inefficent d series engine, so a gtx3582r for should will get you to 600whp. Both turbos will spool way faster and make more power than your current out dated turbo.

There are more efficient turbos out there.
But still 600 whp is alot.
Whats the power you have now?
You might consider going for a divided setup to squeeze efficiency and spool.

Using a Divided housing will not aid in spool as one thinks for that kind of turbocharger. You're confusing that with a true twin scroll turbine housing using a smaller exhaust wheel.

Very similar set up to what I'm doing. Few differences. I do believe, Shodan and I have now got a plan.
