Default Looking for a machine shop in the bay area.

What's up people. I'm looking for a GREAT machine shop in the bay area. Preferably in the San Jose area. I'm looking to get a bore, hone, hot tank, resurfacing of the block and head, and micropolishing the crank. Maybe a valve job. I don't mind a little higher prices as long as it's QUALITY work. Thanks in advance.

Terry Tinney @ Performance Motors in Livermore did all of the machine work for my CRX build up (D16A1/ZC engine). I have not had one ounce of trouble, so I highly recommend him.

Ashland in Hayward did the balancing and micropolishing stuff for me.

What did you get done there and what are the prices?

Anymore shops? I'm sure there are good ones closer to the SJ area!

You can try a place called CLARKES Machine Shop in cupertino. Me and friend had a bunch of machine work done there for both our blocks. I got a hotank, bore, hone, decked block + head, and a full valve job done there. They are a little pricey though but I haven't had a problem so far with the quality of their work.

Do you happen to remember what the prices were?

Remeber these are just aprox prices. I don't remember the exact prices

70 for micropolish crank
50-60 for hotank block
30 per cylinder for Bore and hone
60 Deck block
280 for seating my valves (3 angle) + hotank + decking + installing my new valvetrain (valves, springs and retainers) Dont remember if decking cost extra or not.

edit: Btw here is their number 408-257-3230

I didn't think micropolishing cost that much. Thanks for your help!

Anymore shops around?

I know of some local peeps who have had machine work done at Mid Way. Actually my gsr block is there as we speak. Prices are comparable to what eddyboy quoted.

Quality work ain't cheap, man. If you want cheap prices, you're gonna get shitty work. Believe me, this is not the time to go cheap. You won't know something is wrong until your engine is back together and blowing smoke.

Pay more, use a reputable and proven shop, be happy.

Yeah, I totally understand. I didn't think micropolishing was that crazy though. I thought it was a 40 dollar job at most. Rest assure, I will put out more cash for quality work.

Cool.

Ashland in Hayward balanced my whole rotating assembly (pistons, rods, crank, crank pulley, flyhweel, pressure plate) and micropolished the crank for $120 total.

So far, my engine runs like a champ. It has never smoked, has had good compression since day 1, had no trouble with smog, and gets me 36-39 mpg.

One question, when getting your head resurfaced, does it need to be dissassembled?
