A little intercooler flow help

I spent a little time figuring out how to modify the front license plate to where it would be perfectly visible to the cops if I was stopped but cruising down the highway they would dissappear. Well here you go. the perfect solution to getting more flow to the intercooler but at the same time keep legality when you are stopped.

I can literally blow on the plate with my own breath and it will swing up.

I was thinking of doing something simular, but having it pull up into the bumper support with a switch.
This seems alot simpler and just as effective..lol.

A write up it will be.
1: get your self some simple swivel cupboard door hinges. usually are only a couple inches wide by a couple inches tall. they have two holes in them usually on each flap.
2: get a couple self tapping flush screws where when you screw the one flap into the bumper it will go flush against the flap. if you do not do this the plate will not swing up as far.
3: get a couple small head bolts and nuts. Try to make them as short as possible so you get the furthest travel of the palte but at the same time it is securely fastened.
4: get some double sided foam tape for the bumper side and you can use any other adhesive instead as well. I used some crazy glue just to add security to the flaps to the plate and the bumper (don't worry its not mounted on the painted surface).
4: Get an object that is decently round such as a barrel or a bat or something along those lines to give the plate a little curl so it can slide in the channel easier of the bumper. (some of you may need to cut your bumper a bit to make this work, I had to but did it cleanly, you should do the same if you have to
). The rolling adds to the lift factor cause it creates a foil. I have seen mine lift with just my air I breath out and it goes up at only 5mph I have seen before. even the wind moves it up.
5: fasten the plate to the flaps and then fasten the other flaps to the bumper using the flush screws that are self tapping.
6: check for clearance issues and make sure it swings freely. If it doesn't swing freely you may need to bend the top of the plate closest to the swivel a hair away from the swivel. I experienced that problem myself.
7: again the palte should swing very freely. If you have any questions or issues feel free to PM me.

A lot of Japanese enthusiasts have a hinge on thier plates in Japan, especially the fools that are into high speed runs on thier tollways like Wangan. Very good work though, some people just remove the front plate completely and stuff it on the dash inside the car. I think that is straight up bad idea, cuz if you ever have an accident or brake hard, thats one sharp piece of metal that can cut you or you passenger.
always wondered about doing something like this but i still have the middle bar of the bumper...
if you brake really hard, does it swing the other way?

I cut my whole middle bar out and all the other stuff. I have a 97 teg.
If you brake hard it doesn't swing up at all cause you are still moving fast and the moving air towards your car is still holding it in the air.
Mine only swings forward about 1 inch if it does any from backing up or from just lurching the car around a parking lot. I have some video of the plate in action somewhere so Ill try to find it.

Really good idea. I also thought of the power drop or fold out idea but I dont think it would be worth it because if a cop saw you dident have it and then all of a sudden you did, he would figure out what was up and get pissed that you lied to him (saying you had a front tag on there). I have mine on the side of my EK, looks pretty pimp if you ask me. I hate the hole fuxxxng tag thing any way, all they want that **** on there for is so they can hit you with lasers anyway
All in all I really like what you have done xrtdac
I dont see how a cop could complain about this (well maybe I can) being so stock looking and all. Just say you warent going to put holes in your front bumber so you had to hang it and that was all you coud find to use. Im am sure you will have no problems

FYI you will still get a ticket if it doesn't show while you are in motion. And if the cop sees that it's on hinges (which he will) it's bad news for you. Believe me, this is nothing new to cops, and you aren't gonna put one over on da man.
