Default knocking noise under load...

well ok i just took my car on a long ride about 2 hours

now when i press on the gas while in lower rpms ranges i get a wierd knocking noise. it goes away if i take it up in rpms. but i dont want to do that
boost is set and holds at 10psi
could it be my wastegate?
ic looks fine
all ic piping is still on

maybe turbo is seizing up?
but i just bought a brand new precision sc61
i have no more ideas of what it could be

Do a valve adjustment.....although typically if they were out of spec, then the ticking would increase with RPMs....

Retard your ignition timing and see if the noise goes away.

I have the same problem on my GS-R. Knocks in low end but goes away in higher rpm's. Please post what it ends up being. I would like to know.

TIA

ITS DETONATION!!!!! geez lousie, sounds like someone taking marbles in a jar and shaking them....i had that too...but now retarding timing into boost and i no longer have partial throttle knock...knock is worse under loading and thats what yur hearing, nothing more nothing less... and its not hard to fix just retard timing until it goes away, or dont do partial throttle boost, go more than half or full throttle, but gets hard when yur going up hills and such cause under load the car wants to go into boost...thats what i did for a while but then programmed the ecu to pull timing in boost, works great now.....The knock you can hear like that is bad, start checking plugs and look for signs of detonation, unless you have a j&s to monitor knock you just have to play with timing and fuel and watching plugs

Sounds like me. When I go up steep hills it does it a lot more.

I am glad that someone said that. I was reading the post and I knew what it was and people were talking baout '"wonder what it is" . Personally I think that Its is of upmost importance that people no about detonation/preignition, if they venture into turbo........my two cents

you better believe it....its very important to understand, its one of the most important aspects to monitor on a turbo motor, detonation will own you!!

Where are all the guys who like to run 14:1 compression and low boost? Maybe they'd like to tell me now how easy it is to tune out etc.....

EDIT: If you're running the afc hack it likes to provide to much part throttle timing when you're boosting slightly up a hill or something. Either pull back the base timing, run a boost retard setup, change the timing maps in the ecu, or what i'd recommend run a J&S safegaurd and mechanically pull timing with boost as well as have the J&S in the background listening for detonation and having the ability to pull timing. SOme people don't get the fact that when the weather changes from your tuning session, its very EASY to run into detonation problems. If you tune in the day, and race at night you are very well out of tune and maybe detonating. An active device to pull timing is a really good idea on a street car. But WTF do I know, i drive a mitsubishi

I too hear this, onlyhear it when its at idle, can't hear it from engine bay only when sitting in the car ( this is even before boosting ), running like that for about 1yr no problems but still i would like to knoe what you find out.

piston slap? are these built motors or no?
mine doe sit a little at idle, but the piston to wall clearances we left a little looser becuase oft he power output and boostlevels i plan on making , so mine is more thna likley pistons slap . kinda sounds like a turbo deisel VW?

Don't know about Slowsi00 but my motor isn't built. If his problems are the same as mine the problem doesn't happen at idle. It only happens when the motor is under load in the lower rpm range. Mine also occurs with no boost in the lower rpm range under more than half throttle.

Yeah, if you isolated it to the (possibly) #3 cylinder, then you are either mentally retarded, or it does it when not under load so you could listen under the hood so it's not detonation but, RexSiT3 should get points for enthusiasm...or not.
