i was just wondering what kina clutches you guys were using with your FI setups. things like what feels closest to stock but no slipping. what company, setup, etc. i'm also interested in learning about exedy clutches.

clutch masters double disc. softer than stock and will hold over 800hp.

 

ACT HD/SS has held up over a year on my car with no problems. pedal pressure is nice and it grabs great. its rated to 250tq and im almost making that but i never run the car on slicks, im sure if i ran it on slicks the clutch would be gone by now.

 

Clutchmasters stage 4 if you are looking for something very driveable, yet will hold alot of power. I have went to the stage 5 to meet my hp goals. Call me crazy, but i love the severe ingagement of a 4 puck clutch. It reminds me that my car is a streetable race car.

Where can we find some more info on the twin disc Clutchmasters units? I have been trying to find more info on them for a while but I have found very little....

 

I was considering one till i found out that they wear out very quickly. They are not supposed to be used on the street, but i believe jinxproof used on the street. He can comment better on how quickly they wear out. The price is very expensive for one as well, i believe around 800-1000.00.

hell yeah , i have the ACT Xtreme and it held up damn well for me on the track, but i belive nicesecrex is using the Xtreme too on his 9.4 drag w/ 1.6 60 ft. now that's gripping!

 

How much is the CM stage 3 good for? I'm looking to make around 500whp. I already have it and am wondering if I should sell it or not.

you just can't ride the thing real bad. i drove my car to work alot and out on weekends. clutch held together well. i don't know anyone who's ever had problems with it. clutchmasters told me not to slip it alot on the street, i did when i had to but other than that just dealt with the engagement and it lasted fine. if you want 450+ hsp to the wheels in a honda, you have a racecar on the street. period. and if you have a racecar on the street, your gonna have to have a rough clutch that holds power. my twin disc had a good pedal feel, not real stiff and held ALL of the power. if you want 500 hsp, then this is the clutch for you. just treat it nice and it will last.

couldn't you get the carbon kevlar disks to make it last longer.

 

I'm running Clutchnet 6 puck sprung, day & night from my old Centerforce Dual friction. Clutchnet grabs like a ****.

 

If everyone really must know my secrets on clutches, ill tell you. I had a season of 10 sec passes and about 6-8 nine sec. passes and a bunch of dyno time on a heavy duty act pressure plate and a 6 puk unsprung. When I told the boys at act this, they were amazed. Thats a pressure plate that most people use for mildly moded street cars and it held pretty good. I have tried other clutches and nothing compares to the experiences ive had with ACT.

 

would clutchmaster stage3 hold 400whp. i have the stage3 in my setup now and i'm pushing about 300hp. i like the stock pressure feel and smooth engagement. i'm shooting for for 400whp on my next project and i dont want to use ceramic disk because i used them before and they only lasted 20k miles. i want to stick with carbon kevlar for longlife.

spec clutch 4puc sprung hub, works great.. i would say its about or maybe lighter than a stock clutch but it grabs real well, attached to a fidanza flywheel and you are set.. but if you have big $$$ just get a tilton and you wont have to worry about buying another one

 

right now i'm running an ACT XTSS, the Xtreme pressure plate and performance organic street disc. I thought this would be okay but since i bought it, my goals have changed (i want more power) so i'll be changing out the disc with a 4 or 6 puck unsprung.

 

Here is my personal experience regarding the clutch master stage 3:

Previously i used this clutch on a stock gsr motor with minor mods, ITR cams, ITR tb, jdm 4-1 header and thats about it. It worked extremely well, held a great deal of power. I power shift and the rpms would drop about 1k rpms between shifts. This maybe seen 20 runs and less than 500 miles after the break in period.

New setup, Lsvtec with b16a pistons. Clutch no longer can hold the power. Rpm drops about 2500rpm's between shirts. Clutch also slips off the line when launching at 7k+ rpms.

I never been on a dyno before. However, both setups felt equally as strong. Actually the first steup felt like it had more torque. However the 2nd setup i was able to run a 12.9 @ 100mph.

My overall impression of the clutchmaster stage 3, is taht i loved the clutch. It had a soft feel, but engaged hard on the first setup. When i took apart the clutch a few months ago, the clutch itself looked brand new. So either my driving style is harsh or its not capable of holding a great deal of power. Or possibly my expectations are far beyond its capacity.

 

To start, thanks for posting this, i needed the info. I have the turbo sitting in my room just begging to get installed, but i want a clutch first.. I only plan on making 200whp or less because i have a d16y8, but it's good enough for me.

The car i'm putting it on is my daily driver civic, so i really need something that will last me a long time because my engine has 20k miles and i'm a broke *** college student with no plans for a new car anytime soon

ACT and Clutchmaster stage 2 sounds like the route i should go since i will be making low hp, driving "conservatively" and probably rarely take it to the track... does anyone know the prices on them? Also, if you could name so decent long lasting clutches that'd be nice.

 

My exact thoughts I love my HDSS.

 

My act xxtreme pressure plate and 6 puck clutch started slipping at 440hp and it had only break in miles on it. it was brand new. that was my experience. I have been using the clutch master dual disc for 6 months and the it is perfect. I took the clutch out this week and the pucks are as chunky as when i put the clutch in. i honestly dont see this clutch wearing out for a long time.
