Default k24 or d16?????? advice needed

so ive been in the honda game going on 12 years. but ive NEVER messed with any K series stuff. i was the guy that stuck to b series when everyone else went to K series so i pretty much got left in the dark ages i guess you could say. anyway i sold my 500hp integra last year and havent touched a car since. well i miss it so ive been looking around and ran across a K24a8 with wiring harness, ecu and 5 speed tranny for $400. i know it doesnt have the true vtec and i would need the k20 head to do so. is it worth messing with? im going forge build and boost. i also ran across and 1997 civic coupe with 167xxx miles with a d16y8 for $650 in really good shape except it ran hot, would be building it anyway so that doesnt bother me. im stuck on what route to go. its pretty much gonna be a year long build with wanting 500whp at the end. if it were you which one would you do and why? thanks

I think you need to read up more. From what you have mentioned, I seriously doubt you even had a 500HP Integra. People who use the terms "Honda game", "Import scene" are likely a bunch of fakes who clearly don't even drive a modified Honda.

BTW, all K SERIES motors are VTEC.

K24A1 and K24A4 only have two lobe profiles on the intake, for economy purposes. There is no VTEC on the exhaust.

I agree with everything else you're saying. A D and a K are complete night and day. OP is a dreamer that has no idea what direction they're actually going in.

Someone who had a "500HP" Integra and has been in the "Honda Game" for 12 years should have a much better idea of what's going on than this.

well first off off I never said that all K series didn’t have VTEC, I said that the one I mentioned doesn’t have the traditional VTEC as in intake and exhaust side. I mean I don’t believe how I word anything has to do with how much I know or what I’ve done with Honda’s. Nor do I need to defend any knowledge that I have about Honda’s. I simply asked a simple question and don’t unstand why anyone would feel the need to be a complete *** towards someone seeking information. But thanks for your useful response 👍🏻

IMO you are comparing apples to oranges over a negligible amount of money (in the grand scheme of build dollars). If you can get a complete Civic in decent shape for $650 with a running motor then you are off to a good start...if you can get a complete Civic in good shape with NO motor for $650...you are off to a good start.

I would also say when it comes to b-series vs k-series turbo builds I would rather have a b-series. B-series forced induction time and time again have faster cars, so sticking with a b-series would be fine unless you are wanting to try something different.
