K-series sleeve strength
I tried searching and there doesnt seem to be much information.
I am planning on going turbo k20 and am deciding if sleeves are neccisary. Are many people making big numbers with stock sleeves, and since the k20 is basically an evolved and improved b series are the sleeves any stronger? We know that generally the b series motors can take low/mid boost and about 350-400 hp with tuning quite safely, however it has also been said that the b20 blocks are weaker. Any ideas?
thanks in advance.

K20's and K24's have the same bore centerlines as the H blocks. I would assume that you could take the K safely about as far as the H. I don't think anyone is making oversized pistons for that engine, however, so there is probably very little experience to draw from.

The K sleeves our very similar to the B18C sleeves in strength. There isn't a lot of room for an over bore without sleeving it. You should expect slightly higher HP #'s due to the added displacement on K24's. They are a harder matl. which makes them more susceptible to spikes in cylinder pressure. Actual sleeve wall thickness will always vary from casting to casting (sonic testing is the only way to know). If you plan to keep adding power down the road, I would sleeve it while it's apart. If you plan to build it to a safe point and stop, then don't. Safe tuning is always the issue.

</TD></TR></TABLE> The factory spec. overbore limit is .25mm. Beyond that, I would be afraid to go with a turbo with much boost. A 1 mm over bore in a lower HP NA motor is possible if you do a sonic test to check for casting shift. We just sleeve and build motors for their race team, so don't sue Honda for the advice . A K24 front wheel drive car is in the works.

I have a customer making 764 WHP @ 647 ft. lbs TQ, K24 bottom end with a K20 VTEC head. Sleeves, Custom rods, Custom pistons, Custom crank. Says it just keeps running and running. Now he needs a good car to put it into. Testbed was a 93 hatch, ran 9.21 @ 162 MPH. You guys should see this motor in a new car next year.

Something needs more tuning not enough TQ

Re: (TurboSmart)
With over 600trq that motor has to be either stroked to more then 2.4 ltr or its running methanol... Sounds like a beast.

Sorry your are under estimating the k24.
He said k24 bottom end.
A turbo k24 accord made 225 Hp and 250 TQ with its k24a4 head. Thats the ecnomy VTEC head. ON pump gas.
Needs more tuning to make the TQ # skyrocket somemore. Maybe hes still using the Inductive ignition system.

Re: (civicguy)
No, Gardella is running a B18C.
The motor is in preliminary stages, but will be completed soon. I will try to get dyno graphs to post. We are going to work to get 1200 out of it!
I am also working on a K20 street motor set-up that will make 600 on pump gas all day long, daily driven. Should be kinda fun.......
