Just for kicks, does anyone have the pics of the turbos the shuttle uses?
I Have seen them befor and unfortunitly didn't remeber untill this morning. It is always a shame to see the fastest vehicle ever to be lost. After watching the challenger explosion in elementry school, this just adds another layer to the cake. So i figure a good picture of the massive turbos it uses might cheer me up.

OMG, I just now saw the news....that's terrible. I can't believe that I've lived to see two of them go down

The shuttle doesn't use turbos.

i believe pratt and whitney built the orignial and did the redesign 5-8 years ago on the turbopumps.

Seriously, the turbo "pumps" they use are out of control. Talk about an expensive turbo.

What's worse is the fact it was only the second time they made a big deal about a women going up with it that wasn't a militery personel. Hmm makes me wonder. Also the fact there was an Isreali national on board too. I remember the discovery quite well. After it there wasn't anything spectacular with non-military people going up until this one. Sorry just seems a little strange to me.

dont laugh too hard, the main engines use turbopumps which use exhaust gas to pump more liquid oxygen and hydrogen into the combustion chamber. they look and function just like our turbos.
