Just came back from racing.....(boost problems)
ok, i finally put on my turbo xs mbc and turned it up cuz i was racing at the track today. i was on my 17 inch rims with shitty 60fts. here is my best slip outta four races:
8psi but falling to 5psi by 4500-4700 rpm
r/t .725
60' 2.439
1/8 10.44 @ 72.61 mph
1/4 15.43 @ 90.51 mph
heres my turbo specs:
greddy turbo, blue box, greddy small FMIC, turbo XS type S bov, turbo XS mbc, 2.25 catback and stock cat
now i turned the mbc up to 8psi. it hits 8psi but as i raced on i saw it go back down to 5psi. why isnt it holding boost up to redline like it use to?? oh yea before intercooler it would hold 5.5psi til redline, but now it sorta fluctuates between 4.5 and 4psi(before mbc was on and turned up). wats up with that? i know i hooked up the boost controller right...theres only 2 connections. i wanna stop losing boost...HELP!!!!

Re: Just came back from racing.....(boost problems) (slo blue)
im kinda new to the diagnosing side of turbo's. any suggestions on what i should look for?? i was gonna check the piping although it was nice and tight and secure. the hose connectors are kinda beat tho cuz i bought the intercooler and piping used. do u think that connectors could cause a leak?? lemme know.

how far is the mbc from the turbo? it shouldnt be no more then 2 ft from the turbo. if it is further the mbc could be the problem.

naw the boost controller is only about 2 inches away from the turbo...hehe!! i had about 15 mins to put it on and i found that my vacuum hose was too short to mount it anywhere so i zip tied it to the intake pipe for the moment until i get my longer vacuum hose.

i love the turbo xs type S...sounds great...nice sound. i like it better than the greddy type S cuz it has a somewhat unique sound. not that whistly sound of the greddy...this one reminds me of indiana jones cracking his whip...hehe!!!

Why are you running A stock CAT?
ARE YOU CRAZY?
ditch the cat, get some light weight wheels and improve your 60ft and it sounds like you have some type of boost leak somewhere.

Re: Just came back from racing.....(boost problems) (TurboIntegra)
ya im running the stock cat...does it really rob that much power?? how much of a difference am i looking at here. i guess im gonna order a test pipe from testpipes.com and invest in some drag radials....

yes anything you can do to clear the exhaust up and let it flow more on a turbo car( granted you dont loose too much backpressure) will help. Also a drag race is usually won off the line so yes improving your 60' times will help tremendously. DR's will help greatly.

Where is the vacuum source for the wastegate hooked up to? Is it hooked up before the IC or after the throttle body? Which kit do you have the greddy 92-95 ex kit (since you have an EX) or the greddy si kit (since you say blue box)?

Re: Just came back from racing.....(boost problems) (ekb18c)
naw this a brand new turbo. i got it new back in july. barely had the car to drive it since then. turbo only has 1 oil change on it so far. and about the wastegate, im using the internal wastegate that came with my greddy kit. and the blue box comes with most turbo kits for any car they make em for. im defintely gonna get a test pipe and some drag radials. the wastegate is still hooked up the way it normally comes, except i have the vacuum line from the side of turbo going into inlet on mbc, then out the mbc to the wastegate.

Before I changed to 3" full exhuast I had 100% STOCK exhaust and a FMU setup... and my track times was a BEST of 15.1
After going to 3" and changed from FMU to AFC hack with 440injectors I hit a best of 14.8 with a 2.5 60'
Another friend with a 95 integ auto turbo hit a 2.4 60' on 15' rims and torque braking at 2500rpms.........
CHECK YOUR INTERCOOLER PIPING........ 80% sure you have a leak somewhere, so take the front bumper off if you need to to inspect EVERY single clamp on your piping, next check your vacumm lines and make sure every single one is ZIP tied at least, next after that post if the problem still hasn't gone away.
