Icon2 Jun Villaruz's 62mm 10 Second D16 Project Progress

It's been years since i last visited this forum and have finally decided to use it. My name's Jun from Lake County, Illinois and one of the few guys that pushes SOHC turbo in the area. For years, I've been trying to push the car in hopes of hitting my goals and get the car to 10s. I fell on my face numerous times when i melted pistons, spun rod bearings, trans, clutch issues etc... I almost gave up, but i gave it one more shot this year. I am a noob and still trying to find my way here, so i do apologize in advance if this first post is a mess. Please do let me know if i am violating any rules as i am planning on using HT for future builds.

Here's the current build:

D16z6 Block
P2PO custom rods
Vitiara 75.5mm 8:1 Cr on a z6
Hastings std rings
Acl race Std rod & mains bearings
OEM Honda oil pump "ported"
GMB Water pump

PO8 ported Z6 head "Ported myself"
Supertech valve seals

Transmission:
96/00 Ex Manual S40 transmission
Older OBX Lsd
Stock flywheel/stock axles
Competition Stage 4 6 puck sprung clutch "Slipped"
Hasports mounts 94A inserts

Forced Induction:
Turbo set-up
Garrett 57trim stage3 .63ar 5 bolts.
Turbonetics evolution wastegate
IN1000cc Injector nations Hi-profile
Sandwich plate to feed the turbo and oil pressure gauge
3" Side bumper exit
Sls top mount
Emusa 31x13x3" Front mount intercooler
2.5" Intercooler piping kit
Godspeed manual boost controller
Innovative Lc2 wideband
HQV Bov off of a sr20det
HOndata 4 bar map sensor
-3an feedline no restrictor
10an oil return line

Tires are Kumho 225/50/15 fronts 205/50/15 rear on 15x7+25 bronze Rota Attacks. I ran V2 13x8 rims with M&H Racemasters 23x8x13 slicks. My suspension is stock struts on some unknown coils on front and eibach lowering spring in the rear. I know! It's crazy. Haha. No traction bars.

Engine management is hondata s300 V3

Pictures of the car

I'll try to keep it simple in the cockpit

On the streets

At the track

The car made 418whp 293tq @20psi on ethanol tuned by Mikey at ProFunction in Hoffman States, Illinois. Great guy! Here's the dyno sheet

I have recently reached my goals and thought i might as well share it here.

Basically at this point the goal is to get the car as far as i can get it with the current set-up, then maybe move on with a different platform for time attack runs. There will be a big import event tomorrow at GLD in Wisconsin so i will update again with what happens tomorrow.

Your build is very similar to my one vitara build. I only made 376whp on e85 on the same turbo at same psi but I have eagle rods which is where the difference is. It's also a full on street car so I'm sure heavier as the best I went was 11.76. Love the d16 as I have 3 and am a die hard d16 fan so I love to see people on the same path. Great build and time

1.64 60 foot is no fvcking joke, you definitely can drive the car, nice slicks and an LSD are definetely helping but every launch in that video was damn good, youve definitely got some seat time dialed in there.

Great work

Thanks guys. I'm pretty stoked and happy that the car is performing well at this very moment in time. Let's keep pushing it

Your block isn't sleeved or anything like that?
Your car can really scoot for what seems like relatively 'low' hp/tq numbers

Great stuff OP

60ft time is def impressive, no traction bar by choice or budget? I assume traction bars would help ALOT?

I'm guessing it's weight and a good driver because he's got the exact setup as me with 45 more hp a whole second faster in 1/4. I am full interior tho so big weight difference as welk

He has a few key parts your build doesnt have, a turbo grind camshaft, ported head, ported edelbrock intake manifold and a very short 3" open exhaust. Isnt your car @ 302hp? 418+ is a substantial amount more for the same boost pressure from the same turbo

It is stock sleeves with supertech block guard no traction bar because I've never thought about using one until now + plus budget is low yes. And ek9_beast yes my car is fully gutted

No I am referring to my car built in January with 376whp. I have a built head but a crower n/a cam and 3" rear exit exhaust. All else is dead on except it took my 23psi to reach the 376 while he's at 20psi with 45 more hp. He's set up nice I think my cam killed me on that build

Well not so good news.. I destroyed another trans today on 2nd round of eliminations. I'll put another one in there and go at it again for next week's event.

nice setup man! do you fall out of vtec with that s40 trans? id bet a d2b conversion would help a bunch keeping you in the powerband if it is an issue at the moment

I rarely fall out of boost, actually i don't at all. The next trans will be a stock z6 so the car might run a bit slower with open dif. For now anyway until i find another y8 to transfer my lsd or save up for B-series D2b kit. I'm not looking to run z6 for permanent trans due to aluminum forks, so this will be just temporary and should still runs low 11s with no problem. I've reached what i wanted with the car so i couldn't care so much with what happened to it now, just gotta keep it moving and have fun with it for the rest of the season. Thanks for the compliments guys..

Well long story short I advanced the first round of elimination with no 3rd gear, and got eliminated when the trans started grinding and won't let me go in on all gears with 3 more rounds left + i popped a coupler.. Fml... Here i am again back to the drawing board and doing some adjustments on the turbo housing to try and eliminate the coupler pop outs issue.

And i know i have some boost leaks by the bov piping welds, so we had to cover that.

Also had a leak by the nipple because i ghetto rigged it with a drill and just teflon coated it. It is the nipple by the turbo housing for the vacuum pressure... John at the shop made me a bung for the fitting and welded it to the turbo housing so it won't ever leak again.

Like a boss!

I will be swapping to a stock z6 trans this weekend while i gather b-series transmission parts for D2b conversion. D2b won't be running until next year, that or if i end up keeping the car. Hopefully stock dif won't slow me down as much...
