Default jdmjerks boosted b16 project.....

PLEASE IF YOUR GOING TO POST HAVE EXPERIENCE IN THIS THREAD; NOT WHAT GRANDMAS BROTHERS STEP BROTHERS HAS; OR WHAT HONDA-TUNNER TOLD YOU; I WANT EXPERIENCE
Well the time has come. Ive had this jdm generation 1 b16a laying round for much too long and finally got some cash to do something with it. I got in a car wreck recently and they PAID ME BIG TIME for very little damage.

$3300 Later...
So here is where Ill start. Ive got the block and head stripped down bare.

Im going to Buds Machine Shop in Lakewood, Washington http://www.budsmachine.com) to have him do some machine work on the head and block. I dont know what all I can/should/shouldnt get done to the head and block. Im not sleeving the block; I posted earlier about sleeving and I only want 250whp-300whp around 10psi-18psi and from ppls responses I should be fine if I TUNE TUNE TUNE, so Ill take my chances. I was thinking about a turbo block guard since they are cheap insurance. Ive got a few ideas about internals and what not; but Im just curious what everyones opinions are and what some ppl are runnnig in there blocks. I wanna build this right the first time. Thx guys!
-Nick
Hers a bump for my dads beast!

if your guing FI save your money and leave the head, valve train alone. use that money to sleeve the block. iknow you said you dont want to but TRUST ME dude your going to want more power and now is the time not next year when its all put together.

Hey man, you would even be fine on bone stock internals if you are only looking for those numbers. I have a friend with a hatch that produces 365 WHP out of a B16 and turbonetics t3/t4 on bone stock internals. The only thing he did to the motor was ARP head studs and a thicker head gasket. Now this guy is nothing but a tune freak and that is why his car is his daily driver and he has daily driven 18 psi for the past year and a half. I have a SOHC boosted and i went ahead and honed the cylinder walls, threw in JE forged pistons and Eagle H-beam Rods, along with ARP head studs and a thicker head gasket. I feel safer having my motor built, but he feels better tuning his on stock internals and saving money. My point is if you are looking for those #'s you could easily stay stock and wouldnt have a problem if you tuned, but if you want to feel safe go ahead and build bro....if i were you, since you have the money i would build...but if you would rather throw that money somewhere else and just tune then save and stay stock.

Well, depending on the condition of the block, and since your taking it to a machine shop anyway, just get everything checked out, put some forged internals to be safe and have a ball... stock sleeves can handle upwards of 500whp... ... but thats with some good *** tuning...

I'm curently building a motor in my Si with just forged internals, and a stronger valve train.... I plan to make 400+whp on stock sleeves...

With a good fuel system, good fuel managment, and good tuning... you can do anything... just don't over do it and don't push parts to there limit... looking at your power goals you will have no problem making 250-300 hp... on stock components... but an upgrade would be wise....

p.s more pics of the mustang please

people have mde 600whp, hell I think even 700whp was reported from some company in florida a few years ago, on stock sleeves. 250-300whp is nowadays considered a breeze on stock sleeves. I wouldn't even buy the blockguard.

I want to be able to beat the **** outta this motor and have it be a Daily Driver. Im staying away from STOCK OEM parts; I want the bigger beefer insurance
Block had under 45k (according to hmotorsonline.com; thats who i bought it from)

Ill take more pics of the mustang tomorrow

Damn a local.... buds is a good place

Personally I would use Endyn Rollerwave pistons with Crower rods. Factory sleeves will be fine, just have them inspected and honed. Like the guys above said, keep the head mostly stock. If it's a 1st gen, can't remember, upgrade the LMA's (lost motion assemblies), valvesprings/retainers (Eyndy again). Better yet, just have Endyn build the damn engine for you.

Never heard about LMA's...anyone know anything more about this....I dont want to keep a stock head; I can offord to build that up now too; GSR cams would be fine, but I dontknow about springs, retainers, ect (Dont know anymore vavle train parts LoL) Ive got an idea whats going on; just I know I get some better ideas from this board
And what a Block Girdle? What do these do?
THANKS FOR YOU INPUT HONDATECHERS!

Here is a good thread on LMA's. Been a long time since I've read it, maybe it will help you.

Well first of all BUMP

Second of all today i finished taking the head apart (no pics this time; nor of the mustang; dad got upset that I even posted that pic; hes wierd y0 )
But the block is ready for the machine shop for tomorrow
Few more questions
1-Do they make aftermarket rockers that are better then my stock ones?
2-I wanted to put in GSR cams; I heard they work well with turbo motors. Should I not even bother and get a better aftermarket cam? (remember this is a daily driver)
3-Thanks again for the help with the LMA; I learn something new everyday; but I do want new ones; I didnt find out if the itr ones are the same as the gsr either so which ones do i want
4-How much do you think i can sell my b16 cam/camshafts and rods and pistons for?
5-Why do i ask so many questions?
Thanks guys!

well here were im at i posted this on g2ic.com; hopefully ill get some good feed back. These are my plans so far...

b16a bored .5 over (81.5mm)
-(unsure of machine work yet)
-raceeng.com block guard
-SRP pistons (9:1)
-Eagle Rods
-stock crank (nothing machined)

b16a head
-again not sure exactly what machine work will be done yet; still pending
-itr or ctr retainers, vavle springs, LMAs, cams
-aem cam gears
-stock b16 rockers
-aftermarket stainless steel vavles (not sure what brand to buy)

Im looking for 250-350whp once Im finished and tuned on about 10psi (but be able to handle 18psi if i wanted to upgrade the boost)

The machine shop thinks the itr or ctr parts will hold up on the boost; I didnt think so. I wanted GSR cams and after market springs and retainers (probably cheaper and stronger too and easier to find NEW)

What do you guys think? And a list of good venders to buy from would be great too; http://www.raceeng.com is the only good place ive found so far...

Thanks for the help; Im in crunch now and in a rush and I know you dont want to be in a rush....I just want to make sure i build this right the first time. And yes I know, if i was building this right I would get sleeves; but Im not going to do that
